A riding buddy just bought a used 1979 YZ 250. Good condition, He has not removed the shock yet but here’s a photo of the part we can see. Is this an aftermarket shock? Modified stock? I was under the impression that the stock shocks did not have a Schrader valve? Just curious. When time allows, we’ll get the shock removed and get a better idea of what is installed.

Stock that someone modified to have a Schrader instead of the normal rubber bleeder that you need a needle for. I've modded these and used a Racetech or KYB 46mm valve piston and shim stack along with remote reservoir. You can use just about any modern 46/14mm seal head in them too.
I have an NOS upper shock bearing …if needed…
I have the same bike and it doesn't have the Schrader valve on the shock.
Thanks guys. Good info. 👍
