Personally I don't really like Village, the staff (besides Karl aka SeeMeFirst) is not the best and the flaggers don't really pay attention. The prep work is either hit or miss; sometimes it's plowed nice and deep then others it's hard packed and blue grooved EVERYWHERE. The track isn't very accepting to all skill levels as it mainly caters towards to the faster more skilled riders. Oakhill is practicing Saturday and the track is always immaculate and great for riders of all skill levels and bike sizes. Definitely the standard for Texas motocross.

Hey bish153,
With all due respect, I gotta disagree with Mxfreak, I love Village Creek it's a great facility. They have a day track, night track, mini track and some trails. I don't know if it's changed much over the years or not though. I rode on the day track there for the first time a couple weeks ago and went back last Wednesday I liked it so much. The day track is an absolute blast, it's fast and has fun and challenging but relatively safe jumps. The big / challenging jumps out there are step up and step down table tops so you're not going to kill yourself if you come up short on something. The two times I've been out there in the last couple weeks (both times on Wednesday) the track was very well prepped and the dirt is great. Of the tracks I've ridden in DFW, it's my new favorite. I haven't ridden the night track but it looks pretty tough though. The night track isn't open on Wedensdays but I believe it is on the weekends. I'd suggest staying away from the night track and ride the day track though if you haven't ridden in a number of years. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the least with the day track. In fact I'm going to try and get out there this weekend as well. I ride a 09 yz 250 also #292. Say hello if you see me.

Sounds like it's really gone downhill, I was there in '99 and it was one of the best tracks I've ever ridden.

Both great tracks... If you're up for a little longer drive the new Underground MX is awesome.

the last 3 times we made a day trip down to ride Village it wasnt good at all. it was a blown out dusty mess trips 1 and 3, blue groove (which i dont mind but) chopped up, not rough, just.... blown out, used hard, put away unwet, and opened up the next day and horrible. The 2nd trip, it was SO over watered, it was basically unrideable unless you wanted to carry home half the track, and it wasnt a situation where it rained for days before, it was july, it hadnt rained in 2 weeks, and the way it was watered, it was like they were trying to make sure it stayed wet for the whole day (which it did the 2 hours we were there) and most of the following week so they didnt have to water it again. We left after 2 practices (we all pulled in after 1 lap first time around and second practice, stick your tire in a rut and follow the one line).

Flaggers? we saw someone running the start area and a guy on the finish line. Other than that, didnt see anyone.

it is not the Village Creek of the 90's. It was a dream track then every time we went and we went often.

Nocona, even when its bad its good. Oakhill is fun but I wouldnt get crazy to go back. (we hit it 1 time and it wasnt omg omg omg great, was ok, had some fun stuff but overall, it wasnt what I was expecting, as in Villiage or Whitney back in the day, and no offense Tx guys, Whitney closing up was a blessing considering the state of that place the last 5 years. It was a stain on an otherwise legendary tracks rep)

*** Edit..... I need to clear something up, i was pretty hard on village. We havent been since summer or 09. Thats when we went. Alot can change, or we could have just had the bad luck to hit it on the wrong day (sunday). You are close, go try it for yourself. worst case, you are out $30 for gas and gate and you come home.

Underground is THE track in Texas now. Hands down the best we have. Might not be 5 miles down the road from your house but the place is unreal and is more like a National track than anything we have, and can practice on a regular basis. All it takes is ONE ride and you will be hooked.

Underground is pretty sweet right now, fast paced, elevation, big safe jumps, great dirt and some technical sections. If you havent ridden in awhile and you werent a solid rider before, there might be sections that are frustrating to you.

Johnsonville MX is also a really fun track, but im not sure it will be too many peoples cup of tea. Tons of jumps but theyre all really safe.

If youre just getting back into riding River Valley might be you best bet, nothing crazy out there, high speed, great dirt, and just an overall fun, safe track.

You guys in the DFW area sure are lucky to have so many great tracks within a short driving distance.

Thanks for all the info, I will definitely be at oakhill this weekend. I will also be looking foward to Underground Mx in the future, seems like a pretty top notch facility. Is that reagal's place. Bummer to hear about village, is Terry not in charge anymore? I remember in the late 90's that was the place. Also sad to see Whitney and Mosier close, guess a lot has changed recently.

I grew up racing Moiser. Moved away for a while and was back for a year around 97'. Village Creek was a blast, and they had a big triple that was hard to do out of the corner. I am now in SoCal, and you guys don't know how good you have it!

My first pro race was a Village Creek night race.

I was thinking of going to Oak Hill this Sat myself to dust off the YZ. I'm in Denton if you want a ride over there. PM me your contact info if you're interested.

RV has it's better moments. I think if you go to RV on any practice day, you won't feel cheated.

BUT, they do pretty much let it get tore up all weekend long. Afternoons on Sat/Sun all of the jumps get a bit sketchy.

That's great if you are really trying to get fast and improve skills, but not so great if you just want to have fun (IMO).

RV has been refacing the jumps every day lately. If you get there early, you will get a smooth track but they get enough traffic that it gets beat up pretty good by the end of the day.
