My best guess would be "shock factor" marketing ,not their true beliefs.
However,what I have seen over the past 30 years or so in this country with those symbols and guys who ride bikes.
Is alot of out-law type biker gangs would use that skull along with the SS brand as a symbol of heritage & identity on their jackets and also tattooed on them in prison.Also seen many bikers wearing old German WWII helmets over the years. I highly doubt they support or sympathize with the NSDAP....but who knows.
Maybe the MM thought it looked so-called cool,so they wanted to steal that old out-law biker look.

Nazi symbolism and iconography
Various Metal Mulisha logos contain Nazi iconography and symbolism, such as skulls wearing Wehrmacht heer helmets. Another example is the letter "s" in "Mulisha" displayed as a Sig Rune, which appears in the insignia of the Schutzstaffel (SS) of Nazi Germany.

I am not accusing them of being rampant Nazis, but to have any similarity is downright stupid of them! I'm a bit shocked I never noticed this before, but you can't deny it.....there it is right there! Will be interesting to see if the logo changes. He's had the logo for years, and other school districts have banned the logo, along with the Skin one. All that does it make the kids want it more... Go away??? It's been what, 10 years or more with the logo, and all of the sudden you think its going away?? Not a chance!
I've seen the logo a million times and obviosuly I'm stupid because this is the first time my eyes were opened to what is being represented, even if by accident. Since they are denying any Nazi affiliation or undertones, one would guess correcting the error in judgement would be forthcoming, no? I'm guessing not changing a thing will just be saying "we meant to do that".
Some people will be especially hard hit by this since they lost family at the hands of Nazis. Jesse James found out how lightly people take that whole Nazi thing. Good thing he was just joking around. hahaha, that was a good one Jesse. Marketing.....yeah being labelled a Nazi is an excellent marketing plan.

The SS was an elite division, some of the best soldiers the world has seen.And the individuals did not have to be nazi in oreder to be enrolled, they just had to make it through the gruelling training. To me the SS symbolizes skills, dedication, fear and obedience.

When I first saw the MM logo I thought it looked dumb and "hardcore", but in no way did I think of it as pro-nazi. They just wanted to stand out as a group of individuals without brains, intellience or common sence. To me they fall into the same category as rappers - full of shit but very little to back it up with.

Deegan's comments in the interview posted in this thread confirm that he used the Nazi symbolism on purpose, and meant it as a Nazi reference. That should be enough for rational people to steer clear of the message of hate.
Using it as "shock marketing" is not a valid excuse any more than putting out a line of clothing called "KKK Klothes" with a picture of a black man swinging from a noose would be.
Also, many did not now anything about nazi ideology. Many simply joined because of the Bolshevik threat from the east. The same threat the Allies "fought" from 1945. This matter is not all blacl and white. A bit OT in this thread though...
One time the small group of us that rode BMX together dyed our hair......this was like 95' so this stuff wasn't very common back then. His was blue and mine was red. He got suspended from school. They told him not to come back til it was fixed. So he dyed it jet black......got suspended again. So I just shaved it for him.
Nobody cared at my school about my hair. They were always giving Josh a hard time about something related to the way he looked. It was all pretty stupid.
This was before Josh had any tatoos.
