Engine could be legit. That said, it's useless without the throttle body and ECU. You'd likely never get it running correctly without them.

The engine from a pro’s practice bike…

What could go possibly wrong?

They don’t run the practice engines to their death like you’re suggesting.

A factory team wouldn’t risk their star rider’s health or the subsequent legal implications by letting him ride over-hours equipment which could kill him at any moment.

The practice motors are on rotation and kept fresh too.

I'm sure he took it easy on this motor, plenty of life left in her. Totally worth it.

Throw that clapped out piece in the dumpster

I wast suggesting it had a whole lot of hours, just a whole lot of  abuse.

Edit:

It’s like the story from one of the Trans AMA series races ( I think St Louis. ) about a fan looking at Decoster’s factory bike. He twisted the bottle and said “ that doesn’t turn any further than mine “ and Roger answered “no, it just stays there longer “

Edit number 2:

They keep them fresh while they are using them. I doubt they freshened it up right before Ricky stuck it  on a dusty shelf.

The only thing I'd want from all that is the caliper!

I wouldn't mind having it just for a display piece (if it was legit). It's a pretty cool piece of history for the right buyer at the right price.
