Anyone mess around with fixing tractors or loaders up and selling them?
any tips on what brands sell, or what models are sought after?
Looks like you can get some serious equipment for not that much money:
Just was thinking on trying to learn a bit and wrench on them, and maybe make a few bucks. Any convos around equipment is welcome!!
What’s your go to side hustle?
I remain married to my wife. She brings in some good pay these days!
I repair guitar amps for a couple of local music stores. Been slow lately.
Occasionally take on design freelance creating websites and app UI.
And I lose money restoring old Hondas, so its generally a wash
Onlyfans, Those 50 year old women just love to spend money 🤣

I sell horse shit to make extra money.
about $5k this year.
going to ramp it up next spring.
I have about 2000 cubic yards in a compost pile, some as old as 8 years.
making about 650 cubic yards a year. production never stops.
Next time I see a horse drop an apple, I'm going to think someone just missed out on some cheddar.
Mike Rowe : dirty jobs
I do what my normal job is, but cherry pick customers.
So, I repair brewing, malting, and distilling equipment when they have problems.
Also do some fabricating and automation. Mostly improving someone else's design.
It's nice to be friends with a brewer, a distiller, and a place that gives me grain for my beer. 🤣
The booze business is a lot like moto, everyone knows everyone else in the biz.
I've been thinking about getting back into brewing. No bottling. Fuck that. Keg only.
I grind stumps. About a grand/wk for a couple light days. Cash in pocket makes a nice retirement gig.
I haven't bottled in 20 years save the occasional 6 pack for a contest, and I haven't really cared about those in quite some time.
If my friends and me think it's good, and it is, who cares what some uneducated beer snob thinks of it.
That is awesome. How do people find you? Seems like a satisfying gig
Freelance writing, on top of being an editor. It's so much work but pays $1.10 per word. Also playing live music, which is good for $500-$1000 a month depending on the number of gigs.
I have a class 8 truck repair shop and we also offer rv repair. I’m in the process of having a new logo designed. Then I will be ready for a website. What’s your starting price? Fairly simple site I think.
Pour lead, tie tackle and, plumb…
Wait till you taste titanium. 😂
I just did my expense reports for the first time since January 2024. Should be getting a good check this week.
You still working on that nice lead from the X-Ray room, or whatever it was?
Pit Row
Yeah. I melted the sheets down into 1 and, 5 lb ingots. I have close to 700lbs of it. I got smart and filled the buckets after throwing them on piano dollies to move them around 😂.
I also have a caddy I made to organize the different sizes of weights after I pour. Fuck trying to lift 5 gallon buckets full of lead 😂
Edit: Don’t worry. It wasn’t radioactive and, it quit glowing in the dark the other day 😂
Hahahaha! I forgot you got that much... Damn!
A machinist I used to work with would toss used carbide cutting tools in his lunch box, and save them at home.
One day he asked me for some help at home for all the beer I could drink. He had 3 5 gallon buckets of small carbide tools he was going to sell. Now, I don't know what the difference is between lead and carbide is, but I damn sure earned my beer getting those in his truck.
And I can tell you the handle wasn't going to "handle" it.
I'm curious what kind of tractors you want to flip.
Current stuff or old John Deeres and Massey Fergusons?
No side gig for me, I'm old and tired, in the mood to cruise the rest of the way. I found it interesting that Perronad said on Mondays Pulp show that you gotta make it happen between 30-50 years old. The fire is gone after that.
I'm like Falcon, I married a broad with a solid paycheck. My brother has a pool cleaning business as his side hustle, though. Takes him about a day and half to clean the 20 or so houses on his route (nothing commercial) and he farms out any repairs that need to be done, so he doesn't need to maintain any tools. I'm not sure what he charges per month, but it can't be too bad, because he and his wife have been to Hawaii 3 or 4 times just this year.
Yeah… Uhhh… Hmmm… I did rip a handle off 😂
I just do my regular job but when things get tight I’ll go over the pool route with a fine tooth comb and check out everything. There’s always a filter that’s ready to be cleaned or a light that doesn’t work, a heater ready for service, there’s always something that’s not working. Luckily (knock on wood) we stay pretty busy just keeping up with the stuff breaks on its own. If I get caught up and need more work I usually don’t have to look too long to find something that needs fixing. I like fixing gates, they’re supposed to be self closing and latching, it’s normally a simple fix, stripped out screws or sagging hinges, worn out springs etc. I enjoy fixing those because A it’s simple and rewarding and B, it makes the job easier for the guys cleaning it each week. Plus they don’t leak, they don’t short out, it’s an easy sell because it’s not super expensive, there’s no stupid circuit boards or WiFi apps. Just a nice simple mechanical fix with no bs lol. So nothing real creative, if I run out of work I go look for some 🤷♂️😂
I gotta say I am impressed by how some of you dudes put food on the table. Whatever it takes.
When I built my garage I did as much as I could to save money. When it came to plasterboard (sheetrock you guys call it?) my ceiling, I looked to hire a plasterboard lift. £80 for a week here in the UK, insane money. So I bought one brand new for £120.
I've had it listed on Facebook to rent locally at £40 a week. Just had my 10th hire go out in the last year this week. They collect, leave a deposit and drop back off.... easy peasy!
Old Pimp
I found Peronard’s comments interesting, as well. I’m closing in on 40 and work more now, than I ever did in my 20s. Made a decision a few years back to block out all distractions and just work as much as possible for 10 years. Then hopefully the extra pay won’t be needed and I won’t even be 50.
It does help that I’m only scheduled for three 12 hour shifts a week and my employer offers double pay for any non-scheduled shift picked up. I’ve worked 13 of 14 days in a pay period plenty of times. I’m over $35k in OT pay this year already.
Elevator mechanic here. Try to pick up “on-call”shifts in the winter time for all the shifts I give away in the summertime. Son races motocross, daughter rides horses. Probably have to work till I’m 1000. Ha
