Just posted in Screening Room... I think this was Bubba's 1st win in the 450cc class.

It's so weird how much faster the 2 strokes are. Of course the next year, when all the manufacturers pulled everyone off 2 strokes and made them all ride 4 strokes it was different. With ALL the 250cc 2 strokes gone, the 450cc 4 strokes stood a pretty good chance of winning... All they had to do was finish the race.

Maybe if the 250s weren't SO dominant we'd be enjoying more interesting, integrated racing today instead of this sham that was cooked up by a bunch of Marketing Mgrs.

Sell Sell Sell baby!

Thanks so much for putting these races up. They're like an antivenom for bullshit!

I think Stewart and RC absorbed the change well, but in my view it was a disaster for Reed. He went from being a SERIOUS threat for 1st and a DEFINITE top 2 or top 3 man, to a consederably weaker racer when they were all forced to switch to 4 strokes.

The thing that makes it something to be angry about is that instead of just being honest, everyone tried to sell the switch as something that was necessary because the top racers needed speed that the 250s could not provide. When you watch these races, anyone can see that was not the case.

Manufacturers obviously wanted to help expedite the general market place's switch to 4 strokes without forcing it on us explicitly, and pro racing was the place to do it. They toughed it out and swallowed hard while the jewels of their much-hyped 4 stroke lines got kicked in the nuts week after week during supercross 05, then they made sure it wouldn't happen again in 06 by making sure that NO great factory supported rider was on a 2 stroke.

All the press was orchestrated to look like it was a matter of the rider's choice, but anyone who watches this race, Daytona 05, San Diego 05, or basically any other race from before the forced switch can call bullshit on that nonsense....

The power and sharpness of the 2 strokes is so obvious in the hands of those great riders that you can't miss it. No matter what the riders are forced to say to keep their paychecks rolling in, the truth is obvious and anyone can see it clear as day.

Magnificent post!

I was at that race btw. It was soooo cool to see Carmichael pull up to James after the race, who was on his hands and knees after the checkers, lift him up off the ground and hold his hand up in the air.
