Hey guys I just put a downpayment on a 2011 KTM 300XC & I was wondering if any of you ride or race these things?

Part of the reason I bought it over a YZ250 is that it seems like a better fit for the practice track & fun slow races I ride AND the mountain riding we do. My 2003 CR250 sucked at both, quite frankly, in spite of pipe/reed block/exhaust manifold/gearing/jetting I did. Not the best motor for slow MX racing or trailriding, really.

I noted that last year MXA raced a 300XC and preferred it to the 250SX - is that your experience too? Am I gonna suck as bad as Mike Alessi did in the whoops without a link?

Move this post elsewhere if needed - I think more people read this forum than Race Shop so I put it here. Plus, judging by the amount of interest everyone seems to have about the 2011 300XC up here there might be a few more of them being raced.

PM me if you wish & thanks!

JG2.

Best all around trail bike made, but it wasn't intended for MX or SX.

I'd race one in a heartbeat!

Then again, I raced an XR650 at Glen Helen, it was fun too but, tiring.

I think most weekend warriors don't really need the latest and greatest MX machine to race outdoor tracks on.

Maybe if you're hitting the SX track, then, not so much...imo.

Go for it. Sometimes the softer suspension settings and less aggressive power of an off road bike can be better for the average rider.

MX raced a 300 EXC stripped of its lights in Vet class. That's the bike in my avatar. Got great starts, and it was pretty comfortable on all but the biggest hits. Not that the hits I put it through were all that big.

Play with the clickers and find something that works for you. Have fun.

Cool, I love to make people laugh even when I don't try.

It's an xc...it's made for gncc type stuff...which WILL handle mx just fine...didn't Mike Brown race his 450xc at a few nationals?

It is Vet class legal or valid as an "Open" classer (MX3 or GP open) bike. If you're a fast guy, you may want to get the suspension to ride a little higher in the stroke for MX. Otherwise, this is your dream-bike. Enjoy.

For what it's worth, the XC is not far off the SX, more aggressively set up than the XC-w models in both suspension and engine. Ignition mapping may be the main difference. I don't know about the 300, but the 250XC shares the suspension and frame with the SX
