Current British Champion and had a great year in 2010 - Hopefully Americans will get behind him as he tries to be the first US world Champ since 1994.

Zach Osbourne seems like a good guy. What is even better is how open and articulate he is. There are no standard politically correct answers or filler-phrases like you hear from the others! Good on him!

Did you guys catch him whisper "Josh Grant" when talking about riders who hadn't really done anything but had good rides?

Great podcast! I too like hearing from a rider who could put together a sentence and a thought. Plus, he's doing things a little different than most and being successful at it. Might be the next World Camp even without being super-pumped.

The Grant thing was funny.

I think that is one of the best podcasts with a current rider.

Yeah good podcast with Zach sounds like a humble kid. I like that he was trying to put to bed those stories of prize purse. I agree with him top riders don't give a damn and average riders should really try to get the money from their team or sponsors and not count on 300$ to go by. This is a professional sport now it's not like we got a privateer with no help whatsoever that drives his truck to the race and needs the money for the Gas home.

i think alot of us USA guys really only yell about the purse because to us, its a slap in the face to the riders. Its not the amount, its the ideal behind it that they are being used for no share of the pie. They are treated like a disposable, endentured, work force, and a guy like Loungo (sp?) is lining his pockets off the backs of the riders and shitting on them while doing it.

just my IMO

That, and the Eric Sandin Podcast. THAT is a great listen if you're more old school.

He lets a few people have it, like Pellegrino did.

I'm glad Matthes is doing these.

I found it very interesting when Matthes asked Osbourne if he was making money, Zach chuckled and said yes, you could hear him smiling over the phone. I wonder what a top 10 mx2 rider can make in Europe? I wonder how that copares to the top 10 in the USA?
From what Osbourne sounded like, the money is alot bettter as you move down the list fromthe top 5 guys...

Don't forget the £ is stronger than the dollar too.. so if Zach is making £100,000 and a US guy is making $100,000 - that is probably the eqivalent of near $150,000 for Zach.

Where do people get this idea that GP prize money was just $300?

Was referring to what the US guys gets for top 20 as Zach was saying.

I like the fact that Zach speaks his mind but doesn't come across as arrogant or pushy. He made a number of really good points. I'd love to see him come home and ride a 450 in a few years. One of the best podcasts, and they've all been pretty damn good. Nice work Matthes and 338!

Thanks for the comments guys. I tried to cover a lot of the points I've seen in my career especially the prize money start money debate. I've been on both sides so I feel like I can give a different perspective than most other riders. I'm gonna guest in the studio next week on pulpmx. Just let me know if there is some other debate I could get fired up for you boys!

Cheers Zach

Mxb2........ I was trying forget that day but it seems as if you've just reminded me so now I have another 5 years to get rid of it! Cheers mate! (sarcasm) I'll never forget that day actually. It made me who i am today so as embarrassing as it was I wouldn't change it because the journey since has been insane and vie met some pretty kick ass people that will be forever friends so therefore yeah it's kind of bookmarked in my memory. If I ever write a book (which I would love to do) I'll prolly call that chapter the turning point!

Little Chef are those grubby restaurant you can find on motorway rest area. If you've never just keep the good work keep on steering clear of those.

Mxb2 that was a pretty lame post...

Zach would you not be interested in doing Bercy? I guess you like the offseason to go home but you could do good and I'm sure the team would like to get some exposure. Why is this not happening? Actually maybe a debate could be why do you think the GP teams are usually reluctant for there riders to do Euro sx surely it brings some good exposure to the sponsors? And do you think that teams will push there riders do us sx as part of their contract now the calendar has changed.

The thing with the sx races for me is its such a big trip over. I started my training on the first so I'm flat out right now. Last year i did a few but it takes a lot from the training so it's not really worth it. If I were doing sx here then I would be up for a few but with my gp training being so strict and strenuous to win the world title this year I'm giving them a miss. Even though I'm passing up a lot of start money I feel I can make it up and be world champion if I just do the work and stay focused rather than travel around.
