Keir Starmer announces by the end of this parliament UK citizens will be required to have a digital id in order to work within the UK. How long until this bullshit hits the US? I’d guess next presidential term. Ol boy Vance is pretty cozy with the Palantir bros. No bueno at all.

We already have passports, driving licenses etc. All this does is put all that in the same place. This isn’t a new idea either, nor is it an idea unique to the left because the tories have been kicking it around for years as well. Personally I’m undecided on it right now, I can see good and bad.

I get that you lot in the US do things different and inherently dislike government. This is aimed at helping tackle undocumented migration though and cutting down on companies employing people who shouldn’t be here on the cheap. Either immigration is a problem and you do something, or it’s not and you carry on as is…

That’s what they want you to think, will it do anything to curb illegal immigrants or is it just cleverly packaged government surveillance? Don’t know a lot about it to be fair.

From what I’ve seen of the proposals it’s basically all info they already have just put in one place, so I don’t see how it can be more surveillance than can already be done. It’s not like it’s microchip implants into people with GPS, it’ll just be something you have to produce when you go to vote or register with an employer.

Will it help with immigration… I’m less convinced. It would help stop anyone who’s trying to go undocumented from being able to find work, sure. Would that stop them wanting to come here in the first place or claiming asylum when they get here, probably not.

The other thing is this is a proposal for something, not how it will end up once it’s gone through legal advice and parliament. It’ll get watered down, amended and changed and that before it even gets to house of lords for approval which it may not get on first attempt. We don’t have executive powers the way the US does so there’s no chance this ends up as it’s being suggested right now.

i mean people could just not work. then the government would have a choice to make. I'm sure someone will be along to tell me its not that simple, but it really is.

sometimes line needs drawn in the sand.

I mean, y'all have a digital ID already and are being continuously monitored, UK are just formalising it.

I'd be more concerned about private companies monitoring you and selling off your data tbh

If the govt is pushing it it’s bad. Every time. If they’re mandating it you know it’s terrible. It’ll have a social credit score linked to it. You guys can’t even criticize migrants online or some badge wearing wanker comes knocking. The govts of the world created this migrant problem. It’s on the UN website. They created this bullshit now they give you this as a solution and it equals more govt control. Like the patriot act here. And the irs and income tax. Was all supposed to be temporary and look where it’s gone now. All these cocksuckers can think of doing is taking more from us. User above is correct. Line in the sand has been drawn. If our US govt thinks they’re going to force it on me here I will gladly be ready to spill their blood.

Nope, I don’t trust government to not take next steps such as tracking, and chip implants. Law enforcement will say “think of the possibilities, we can track down criminals in no time.”

The states paid billions of dollars for the “real ID” and honestly, I don’t even know what it did. Other than I have to bring a water bill with me to confirm my address and wait in line 10 times longer to get it. I cant get on a plane any faster.

Ironically enough, in 1987 when I got my learner's permit at 15 years of age in Florida, I was required to produce the same documentation that's required for a minor to obtain a realID today. What changed in the years in between that it had to be required at a federal level? Bueller? Anyone?

All I’m going to say to that is I went over the whole online speech thing with someone in a different thread and I’ve no desire to do it again. The UK isn’t the USA, despite our similarities there are cultural differences in certain areas and that’s one of the big ones.

Anyone and I mean anyone who agrees to digital ID is the dumbest mother trucker on the planet bar none.

What do you think it is actually being used for? The Brit’s are going to now freeze your account unless you get one. It will track your bank account, social credit score, health information, all on a digital card. They will track your movements, even further. It is nothing more than a free persons ankle bracelet.

Why are people so gullible

“It’s not like a microchip GPS” really? It doesn’t have to have a gps.  The network is so large now it’s harder to be off than on grid. They have so much surveillance on you, they don’t need the microchip gps. It’s all there in front of you. Cameras on every corner. Who taps into them at will? Government. Now they track your every movement. Ping last location, search cameras, easy find.

Uk may be different from USA. But anyone on this forum can go search. I said this would happen a year ago and the USA was the pillar they want.

Get outta here with that commie crap! You’re talking about workers going on a general strike to assert their liberty? God forbid people stand up for themselves, that would be so bad
