I have been on KTM group bikes since I have gotten back into moto in 2021. They have all been very reliable and well built, and my 2024 ktm sxf 350 has been no exception. Motors/clutches down to bolts and bearings have been good. So on that aspect I am sort of nervous to leave this brand. But I am interested in the kx 450 for the way it's talked about to be a good cornering bike and I feel they are a good looking motorcycle to boot. How are these 2024 plus kx 450 holding up? For whatever it's worth I haven't ridden a new kx.
You'll be fine. Check out the 2024-2025 KX450 thread here. It has everything you need to read. Plenty of folks getting great durability from this gen KX.
I moved from a Husky 450, same gen as yours and I love the KX.
So far so good on my end. Change the oil frequently and stay on top of maintenance and you'll be fine
I moved from an old 15 ktm350 to a 19 kx450. I got over 300 hours on that bike with just a top end replacement. I’m not a clutch abuser but I would get many many hours on a clutch. I purchased a 24 kx450 in may of 24. I’ve had no issues with the bike. The air filter is a bit janky feeling to me but I just take my time and make sure it seals properly. The bolts and fasteners are much better on the 24 but have some progress still to be made. I put a dab of blue lock tight on the bolts I’ve learned loosen up a bit and thy fixes that issues. As far as the bike goes I love it. Love the smooth power and cornering ability with the normally kawi stability. You won’t regret the move.
Definitely dig into the dedicated current gen thread. Lot of good info and people in there. I got a ‘24 off the floor last year and it’s solid. Soft forks were my only complaint but that got squared away after some oil adjustments.

Thanks guys
100 hours on my 2024, only mechanical was a blown counter shaft seal.
did a top end at 60 hours, regular maintenance stuff, things been solid.
So solid in fact I just bought a 2025 also lol.
Side note, I enjoy your online content!
Its pretty much pick a color, just depends on what a guy wants or wants to spend. I wanted a 450 and didn't want to spend a lot.........cause I'm cheap. Like a lot of us, picked up a left over 24 KX450 late last year. I don't have many hours on mine. Haven't ridden that much this summer and have other bikes I ride. I make a few laps, talk to my buddies and drink a Dr. Pepper when I go to the track. Older I get its about fun. I'm ready for this Houston, Tx weather to cool off and its been a mild summer. About another month so and will be out of the 90's.
So far my green bike's been good. I see no reason it won't go many hours, most others have. I'm not worried in the least about reliability with my KX.
Several things about the KX I like. Its sets good, with the pegs moved down and back its sets for me a tick better than my Honda and that's saying something. Honda sets good too. KX turns dang near as good as a Honda if not as good but more stable in a straight line rough stuff, braking bumps etc. I sprung mine for my weight after I rode it a time or two but with stock springs right out of the box it was good.
I'm not getting any younger, I dumbed my KX450 down, run it in non aggressive mode, traction control turned up. Also added a throttle tamer, which I have on all my bikes. I had heard the factory Beta RX riders had added a heavy flywheel to RX450. I thought, why not do it on my KX450. So I added a 10 oz flywheel weight to my KX450. Crank the throttle and it will still let you know its a 450 but a tick easier to ride with the 10 oz flywheel weight.
I spent 7 years on various 350's before moving to my '24 KX 450. I put a whole year of racing and hard practice hours on deep, beat to sh*t northeast tracks on mine with no issues. That includes me finger blasting the clutch the entire time. The Kawasaki requires a little more care with maintenance and stuff than a KTM but they are solid.
No issues here. 60 hours on mine. Oil change every 10 hours, filter every 20. Only thing I’ve found that requires above average maintenance is I regrease my steering head bearings every 20 hours. Water tends to get in there.
2022 kx 450 bought new 42 hours stock clutch disintegrated and destroyed the whole motor
2024 kx 450 bought new 50 hours crank locked solid
I would not purchase a Kawasaki in hopes of a reliable motorcycle plus I got jb weld holding my frame together on my 24 off the showroom floor.
I wouldn’t listen to this guy OP. He might be telling the truth about his experiences with Kawasaki, however him saying JB weld is holding his frame together shows he is too emotional to provide an opinion you should trust.
You are right it’s not JB weld lol in all honesty they all break and I had horrible luck with Kawasaki products. Thankfully the 25 Honda I bought has outlived both kx’s. The 20 ktm I had was reliable the 21 Yamaha was good and the 19 Suzuki 450 I bought new all did not have motor issues FWIW.
I rode my 2024 for the first time in 6 months yesterday. Hit the button, fired up, and was still the same pleasure to ride as it was 6 months ago. The only thing that pisses me off about my Kawi is the steering stem bearing seal is terrible. You literally have to clean and grease them once a month or else they get tight. Great bike all in all and for 6500 out the door, idk if theres a better option out there dollar for dollar
My 2024 KX450X has been good so far but did come from the factory with damaged fork cartridge internals. We did a fork rebuild for a race and found damage inside the cartridge. Fork was untouched besides springs being swapped. The other side was completely flawless. Less than 20 hours. Also ate a clutch up not too long after. Beyond that nothing really crazy from what I remember.
Got 2 2024 KX 450s. Both have been solid. Running right at 40 hours on the one with no issues. Keep your air filter clean and your oil fresh and most modern bikes will keep running for many hours.
