Hello,

I finally got to go to the track over the weekend and it was really fun, I think I almost divided my lap times in half from saturday morning to sunday afternoon and was even clearing a few of the doubles and table tops on my 5th time on a bike. the next day my legs were so sore I couldn't walk normal I also noticed that I have been squizing the gas tank with my knees a lot and then they felt "bruised" on the inside of my legs on the side of my knees, later on I couldn;t really squeeze the tank with my knees eventually. Has anybody had this problem? Do your knees get used to it after a while and riding a lot?

Thanks

Make sure you have your knee guards/braces on the correct leg. Sounds stupid but I've made that mistake before and experienced exactly what you're talking about.

Ride it out, it will go away after a good amount of seat time, like all sports your body has to readapt to the stress and movement of body parts specially if you have nt been active! Try to stretch before and after you ride and ice the sore parts till it eventually goes away! Good Luck.

or until you are picking your knee cap up off the track hoping some miracle working can re-attach the nasty chunk of flesh.

Wear all the knee protection you can. And then some.

Are we talking knee braces or pads here? BIG difference.

I ment knee pads sorry

don't really mean to veer off topic but my parents don't ride and dont really support mx as much as I would like. I am like addicted to it now and wanted to go back to the track on saturday. I don't know too many people who go dirt biking more than once every 4 weeks and just met a guy (friends with my friend who rides sometimes) who took me over the weekend who goes frequently with his kid. I don't want to mooch rides to the track off of him, but if I could like get me and my bike on his bus to the track when he goes that would be ideal. (maybe a friend later on) My mom thinks mx is white trash, I am trying to convince her other wise. I asked her if she wanted to come out to the track with me and the bike and watch me for a bit and she doesn't sound like she wants to do that, my dad is a bit more supportive and says he will drop me off with a friend if they take me home which prolly won't happen. The guy that took me over the weekend has some of my stuff BTW which could be a good way to meet up with him. I know most kids my age that ride have parents that are into it and can take them riding. Not the case with me unfortanitly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Dude....I gotta hand it to you....you are sticking with what you love to do , and it seems like you are doing it all on your own dime! It's kids like you that help make this sport grow!

Always , always , always wear knee pads! I actually forgot mine one day , and decided to ride without them. I had kind of a fast tip over in a corner....no big deal right?...Wrong! My friggin' knee landed right on a baseball sized rock and spilit that sucker open like you wouldn't believe! I ended up going in and getting like 12 stiches and wearing this big gauze band aid thing for like a week! It seriously took me like 3 weeks before i could ride again without re-opening it!

Wear your knee pads!!

PS.....If your mom thinks MX is white trashy.......just show here some pictures of RC's new house he just built >>>> http://www.architecturaldigest.com/...carmichael_slideshow#slide=1

Let her know that "real men" race MX! Homo's play ball sports <<<<< actually homo's play with more than one kind of balls.....not that there is anything wrong with that I guess.

Hmm. Might just have to post up your Mom's pic for an informed decision to be made.

If its only your 5th time then its probably because your using different parts of muscles then you would normaly use when walking and doing other stuff. It takes a little bit of time to get to used to it without it hurting.

Right on, buddy. Try to get your parents to stick around at the track and watch a little bit. Get them to talk to other families and stuff at the track, and maybe they will change their mind if they open it up a little bit.

They will keep whatever ideas they have about it if they don't experience it themselves.

Ok, I will try to get her or my dad to come to the track and watch me or something this weekend hopefully.

Thanks

WOW, almost a full page of replies and nobody has slammed this kid yet, you old farts are getting soft in your old age.

OP: Knee pads and more seat time will eliminate your problem I'm sure. Keep on riding and keep showing your parents how much you love this sport by doing well in school and being a good kid. I'm sure they will com around. Good luck!

I doubt the guy who took you to the track will think you are being a mooch as long as you don't act like one. Pitch in, help load and unload, pick things up, be on time, and so on, and you'll just be part of the crew.

Wear every bit of protection you can - always. It is easier to become comfortable wearing knee pads/braces than it is using crutches (and cheaper). Your knees are sore because you have insertions of muscles on the inside of your lower leg bone just below your knee. Your body will get use to it but please for your parents sake wear the knee pads.

Wear knee pads. They feel really awkward at first but you'll get used to them

Exactly!!! Some of these young kids have NO appreciation for someone reaching out to them. This young fella seems to be on the right track.

I don't know how it is in the rest of the country, but around here when you go to the track there are $50 k trucks, pulling $80k trailers with 5 or 6 bikes. Maybe not the smartest move financially, but I wouldn't call em white trash.

Whatever you do though young man, be respectful and appreciative to those who help you out, including your parents. That will show them more about you and the sport than you can understand at this age.

One more thing I want to add is this. If others at the track see that you are trying hard , and your overall attitude is really good.....people pick up on that. They see some young kid trying as hard as he can just to get to the track and paying for everything out of his own pocket. Sometimes the MX community steps up to the plate and helps out a little. Remember " what you put into it......you'll get X10 coming back to you in fun".

Try on some different knee pads at the bike shop and find a pair that are comfortable. Don't ride without them.

Did you bang that hot helper lady yet?

I know we've goofed on this kid more than once and we thought we was trolling us a lot in the beginning, but I have to hand it to him.........he really is working hard at this and seems to really want to learn. Keep it up!

I have mixed emotions about your folks not wanting to watch you ride.

On one hand, if they see you hauling ass over whoops and flying through the air, they might get scared and make you quit.

On the other hand, they may be amazed that you can do it and support you a bit more.

Either way, I personally would never let my son go to riding with someone I didn't know extremely well.

I hope you cary a note from your folks that allows the adult you're with to authorize medical treatment if (God forbid) you get hurt out there.

Keep up the hard work, and the knee thing will work itself out.

Dude! That is where I went. That track is so awesome and fun! I went on Saturday and Sunday. Did you see the really really slow kawasaki kx100 and the rider had blue gear and white helmet go around the track? Slowest on the track at first I think. I got better and I can clear the first table top in the rythm section now which I am stoked about. I went with Kade (number 10) I don't know if you know him, he was hangin with Nick and those guys on Saturday and he took me.

I want to go back this saturday with a friend if my mom takes me.

Hopefully see you there! haha
