If that is true that Townley is going back to gp's that gives Reed another option if he really wants to race. Great team and they are on Honda's ...

If they can't pay Townley what he wants I doubt they can afford Reed.

I just hope he lands somewhere and races at least supercross.

I think he is behind the eightball now for testing and training.

It would be cool to see him on a Honda.

Maybe - there are some interesting connections that can be made.

1.) Reed is no longer with Monster after leaving Kawi. He said he has zero ties for next year except Alpinestars (which fits under the TLD awning).

2.) Reed dropped Thor after a nearly lifelong career with them. Maybe so he can get into some TLD gear?

3.) He's digging his pro-circuit Honda. TLD has a PC Honda under their tents.

I don't know how likely it is, but it would be interesting.

Red Bull sponsors James Stewart personally. Red Bull does not, however, personally sponsor any of the riders at TLD. They sponsor the team itself. Much like Red Bull Honda last year. None of the riders were Red Bull sponsored, it was the team.

It is an interesting looking fit, I think there is more light to be shed on this situation. Who wants to elaborate?

So the question is will Red Bull still back TLD if Red Bull is going to KTM?

Reed raced for very little two years ago, sure it was outdoors... I'm sure they could pen a deal at TLD with big bonus dollars that Red Bull would be happy to pay. Does it seem silly to anyone else that PC does not have their own 450 team to go along with the 250 program. Maybe he is passively/ aggressively trying to quit and move on to cars back home.

Original TLD only wanted to do West coast 250f supercross but after the first year they decided in order to get any good young riders they had to race the nationals.

I don't believe they have a plan to run the East coast supercross races this year.

I agree that the Honda PC connection is interesting but I think it would be a bigger commitment than what TLD wants to make at this point.

I read in a racerx article that red bull stepped in only to make the townley deal work, because he is/was a red bull athlete. so, if townley leaves they might not have a drink sponsor?

TLD with Reed for SX and Townley for outdoors would be a title contender in for both. Would take some cash... maybe Red Bull would see it as a better investment than putting all that cheese behind a guy who did just a handful of races this year.

RedBull is still on board here at TLD.
RedBull and TLD have been together since we first started racing and nothing is changing in 2011.

cheers,

Sounds like Reed won't get out of bed unless there is a certain amount of $$ on the table. If Troy Lee couldn't afford to keep BT you'd imagine they'd struggle to meet Reed's demands !

BT is leaving the US because its a bad joke, not because the $$ arent there. CR will pull something together, he's too much of a marketable rider to not score something. I do think he'll have to take a pay cut though. The PC bits on his Voda Honda werent shelf items.

Just found this article. The most important part is this:

"Unfortunately at this stage our priority is to finalise my future arrangements in the US so I can't confirm which rounds I will be available for as I expect to be heading back to the Unites States at some point in the next 10 days to move forward with my US program."

Chad Reed can't confirm remaining Super X rounds

Posted: Monday, 18th October, 2010 : 6:08 PM - - 3,538 Reads

Chad Reed's participation in further rounds of the Monster Energy Super X Series hinge solely on the progress of the ongoing negotiations regarding his new riding contract.

"I really wanted to race the whole series this year," Reed said. "The profile and competition have grown so much in the past three years and I really wanted to be in a position to defend my title.

"Unfortunately at this stage our priority is to finalise my future arrangements in the US so I can't confirm which rounds I will be available for as I expect to be heading back to the Unites States at some point in the next 10 days to move forward with my US program."

2010 has been a rollercoaster ride for the 28-year-old, who forged on through injury and illness to make the starting gates for the Super X opener at Energy Australia Stadium at Newcastle last weekend were he took a resounding win.

Reed put on a gutsy display for fans on his TeamVodafone Honda CRF450R, many of which were family and friends, and long time supporters of his glittering international career.

His style was smooth and the win came comfortably on a machine he has had few chances to ride since jetting home to Australia from his Florida base.

A busy start to the first of two 12-lap finals saw Reed bundled back slightly but by lap 4 he was on the tail of the leaders.

He honed in on Daniel Reardon and Josh Hansen, picking the pair off and settling in to a rhythm which he maintained to the end of the race.

The TeamVodafone Honda pilot got a better start in the decider and quickly took control of the race, never headed on his way to an emotional win.

“It’s a great feeling to make this race a reality and be able to compete in front of my home crowd,” said Reed. “This is a big thank you to a community that has been behind me throughout much of my career.

“I felt comfortable tonight and had a lot of fun riding. It really has been a tough year and to come here and get a win is a real high point and something I’ll remember for a long time to come," Reed concluded

It would be amazing if he could be on TLD, but it won't happen. Reed thinks he's too good to ride on anything other than factory equipment, and he might be right. If he doesn't feel he has a chance to win without the equipment, then he won't race. He's not the kind of guy to sign up for 3rd-5th, he would rather not race. Yes he liked the Honda, but not enough to take him to the top podium step.

Even if TLD had the backing from Red Bull, they would just be in the same boat as H&H is right now with enough funding but not the right equipment. Reed is requiring a Factory bike and a factory salary on a satellite team.

Like I said last week, I'll be surprised to see him at A1.

Maybe he should do his own deal for 2011, I remember reading a mcgrath interview after he did his own deal with bud light and yamaha and he stated he made more money than any factory deal .

If we all chipped in 1 dollar...the millions of Vital members could pay for his yearly salary.

As his boss, the first thing I would have him do in Heat 1 is lose control in the mechanics area taking LB out!

With LB out Bubba will be clueless as a racer...Chad will be on easy street after the LB accident

I would also demand he take Josh Grant out because I dont like him.

If the millions of Vital members tossed a buck in a bucket would could afford Reed for the year.

FUN, it would be FUN.

So you are saying the TLD equipment isn't up to par? That's a pretty laughable statement to me, Townely had no problem being up front outdoors.

The only thing that I think is a big sticking point with H&H is them most likely being on Kawi's. To say either of those teams are on sub-par equipment for next year is far off base, IMO

based on his interview on racerxill.com, it seems like he just did a "one off"" audition. he said he wasn't going to race any more events in AUS, , and that he was trying to land a deal here in America. honestly, he seems came off like a douche; it's apparent the guy doens't even like racing anymore and is just milking it for a year or two longer to get some fast getaway cash. didn't he say last year at the US open that he was retiring in two years?
