Planning to attend Budds Creek this year and it would be my first time going to an actual National. Any advice for getting the most out of the experience? Helpful tips, things to know or prepare for? My gf and sister also want to go so I’d like them to have a good time as well.

Budds is a great for spectating. Lotta elevation, wear some good shoes (think hiking) Big gulp is always a cool spot to go to watch, and Henry Hill is right there to. Always fun to watch how much speed they carry between those two sections. Enjoy it. If you can put up with the crowds attending a national will absolutely blow your mind. They aren’t human.
It's the only National I attended (years ago), and viewing was great. Few different spots you can see a good chunk of the track.
That being said, it was HOT. Hat, plenty of water is recommended.
Bring a hat/ umbrella and water. we sat near the bottom of henry hill last year and it was nice because we could see the start and a lot of the other track. like others said bring good shoes because there is some hiking involved and you might have to walk a good ways from parking. Recommend getting a hotel in laurel/waldorf MD or in king george VA. Last years national had some rain in the morning during practice so id bring that umbrella just in case but it looks like its going to be nice this year. overall its a pretty nice track to navigate, everything is relatively tight. have fun!
Accuweather says high of 82, sunny and only a 15% chance of rain. Still, an umbrella is a good idea to keep the sun off.

Watch for Amishes on back roads. Take twice as many liquids and ice as one might think necessary. Get there early, practice usually at 0830 and you don’t wanna park tooooo far away. Grab me some stickers and show us your pics. Enjoy.
Good advice, but just want to note that Laurel, MD is MUCH further away from the track than Waldorf, MD. I’d suggest Waldorf.
Hoping this sticks...I can't remember a budds national not in the 90's and humid as fuck lol.
To OP, if you're bringing chairs, bring a claw hammer and/or hand trowel to dig holes for the rear seat legs. Will be much more comfortable.
my bad i meant la plata but said laurel :/
Get there early as soon as practice is about to start. I usually set up on the hill between big gulp and henry hills. There are trees there for shade and you can see 90% of track. But get there early set up some chairs where you think you want to see then go walk around and look for maybe a better viewing spot.
if youre bored they have amateur supercross there the night prior. pretty fun to watch
Everyone has pretty much nailed it that have already contributed Budd's Creek advice and recommendations...Therefore all I can really do is emphasize what's already been said. I'd also encourage bringing your own food & drink if you don't mind lugging them as concessions can get long lines and frequently sold out (on top of being a nice hike away depending on where you end up sitting).
Great recommendation from another poster on the claw hammer for digging out a couple holes to level your chair as you'll need one if you sit on a hillside... You'll either need one or be asking to borrow someone else's! I usually throw in a little handheld gardening shovel myself. I'm an old fart that has lost half my hearing from very loud rock music, construction equipment, etc-- so I pack a headset (ear protection) and/or ear plugs too.
Yes and emphasis on all the following... hiking shoes / boots, lotsa water, hat, sunscreen, etc (even despite the nice and cooler looking forecast).
As far as sitting and viewing- everyone seems to claim their spot prior to and during the first motos but then holes start to open. Go try some different locations for the second motos... Most of all- have a fun time!
I’ve never been to a national at Budds, but I’ve ridden it a few times. The area by the Yamaha hospitality tent provides a panoramic view of most of the track. Not sure if the space is obstructed by stuff on race day, but it’s worth checking out.
Ah, that makes sense. La Plata is a good alternative.
I’m staying in Alexandria so we’re good on that end! I have spent time in Waldorf and LaPlata - I can’t say I’m a fan of that area, and prefer the Virginia side
I don't have any specific advice for Budds Creek, but for any national I'd say prepare to walk. I like to set up a little "camp" with a chair and a cooler, but I wander around for different vantage points. The camp is a good idea if you're bringing your sister and girlfriend, too; I can guarantee that they won't be into it as much as you are. (Well, unless they are both WMX riders.) Let them hang out in one spot while you go see a few different spots. Here's what I'd go see:
-At least one moto from as close to the first turn as I could get.
-Henry Hill
-Fly Triple
-Any spot where the fence is right up near the track
There’s no secret to Budds. Walk in, look around, pick a spot, or wander around. You can see most of the track from a number of areas. Shade is typically the coin of the realm, but it looks like it will be quite nice this weekend. Take cash and park at the houses near the entrance. Chairs, a tool to dig to level chairs, shade,
Looking again at what you wrote, a place for the significant others will be key. Referring to Pizza cobra's map, in no particular order:
A) left edge of “1st class zone” box. Great for starts.
C) Just to right of “Monster Launch” box. Can stand next to off camber and see all of track.
D) Just above “Fly Triple” box. Underrated spot. Burger van at top of that hill with typically shorter lines.
When I was there in '23 I moved around alot and watched from multiple areas. My favorite spot was next to Henry hill. Claw hammer is legit advice when using a camping chair on the hill. I'm from flatland Louisiana and had no clue about that until a kind soul offered his up.
I stayed in Harper's Ferry, PA the night before and rode my 450RL to the races that morning. I'll never ride on the pavement in Maryland or DC again! A group of us were riding the MABDR at the time.
I failed to mention earlier, perhaps someone else did, but the downhill curvy rollers soon after the start- there’s a paved road and a fence close to the action, stand along there for the first couple laps of insanity, you’ll dig it.
Pit Row
We stayed at a campground in Colonial Beach VA last year so 301 traffic wasn’t too bad coming from that side of 301 just bridge tolls.
Coming from Laurel take 32 to 301 and 5 bypassing Waldorf.
BTW the hurricane Erin could make things a mess.
Do a lap around the inside and outside of the track.
When leaving and headed north go south on 234 to Mechanicsville RD its a few miles but you will by pass all the leaving track traffic that turns at the liquor store right by the track.
BTW the Captain Lenards crab restaurant isn’t very far 20 minutes from Budds and I eat there when I lived in Mechanicsville every time I go to Budds so I highly recommend it.
I was there in 07 for MXON. And I'll be there this weekend!
Solid advice.
theres a place right down the road from budds called chaptico market. i highly recommend getting some fried chicken from there. its the locals best kept secret
