It's sad to think that Windham has been the most exciting guy on a Honda 450 over the last few years.

Canard has a lot of heart, and that will carry him far. Josh has speed but has lacked consistence and maybe focus. But, he has been on Honda's before and knows the deal.

As for Reed, I honestly don't see him on a Honda in the states. But, I guess it all depends on his results and sponsor money. It's good for the series if he comes back for supercross, though.
lol. remember when mc came out and was beating all the honda guys in sx races? how does he pull those starts man? so sick. KINGofSX

I wouldn't say Honda has momentum. They have Canard who is a little fragile in my opinion (IMO). Granted, he won the championship, but he was in a fog the first couple of rounds. Plus, he's a little too emotional. Josh Grant is fast at times, but in no way is he a person who will win a championship. If anything, he is geared more toward Metal Mulisha and the mosh pit instead of being a title contender. That attitude is poison to winning. Reed is only doing a couple of rounds. He will probably get out of dirt bike racing for good. No way is he gonna race here for a whole series.

From what I heard, Yamaha's switch to production YZs in the mid-80s was a factor for RJ going to Honda. The YZ works bikes were piles compared to the red bikes. Then the AMA made everybody go production.

Funny you say that RJ is tall, he'd been asking Yamaha to adjust his foot pegs for months, nothing ever happened, he rode a Honda (with Decoster there) mentioned he'd like his foot pegs moved, it was done the following week. Honda was good to RJ and from different reports I have heard, Honda sells the most motorcycles.
Propaganda!

Honda makes a damn good lawn mower. Nothing innovative but the engineering and metallurgy are solid, save for a few recent examples.

Makes me wish they still built motocross bikes.

If Honda really wanted to win they would have dropped a pile of money in RV, JS, or CR lap a long time ago. You'll know if they really want to win when Dungey's contract is up.

JG33 is one of the most talented guys, and i hope he kills it on the honda. I never liked the look of him on the 2010 yamaha.. he didn't look comfortable to often to me.

I think the truth is that Honda had the better, faster bikes, and were willing to spend whatever it took to win.
Let's not forget that of the "Big four" MC companies, Honda is the only one that started out as a motorcycle company. They had and will always have the passion to stay at or near the top of motorcycle competition."

"wings", call it what want...but the simple fact is, most riders DO want a lucrative contract for there efforts. Wouldn't you? No insult, just plain truth. Nothing wrong with trying to get the most money you can to secure your financial future...reward your efforts.
And yeah, absolutely....Hondas factory bikes were light years ahead of the mftrs at that time. They have always had the deepest pockets too to go after top talent. For whatever reason(budget cuts)...somebody somewhere up the chain of Honda brass has cut the budget apparently. Or else Pourcel would be signed by now(negotiated).

"ninety3"...I can't really remember about Hannah offering to ride for bonus money only.
Just don't remember that one...but hey...Hannah was definitely cocky enough!

Looks like it's all coming true. And now Ryno wins the Vet Worlds going away, and MC is gonna race the Genoa Sx.

It's gonna be a great year!!!

Slow down there Skippy! Come A1 there will be a rainbow of colors that will give the "Red Riders" all they want.

There will probably be multiple winners. I think Dungey will win the most, but Stewart, Villopot, Reed, and Canard will be right there. They will all be pushing the envelope. All the bikes are so close to each other, I think the Zook is the bike to beat.

The momentum comes from Reed, he's not on "thier" team. but is still on a Honda and will get all the factory parts he needs.

I agree, and I think that Canard and also Grant will not want to get beat by a "privateer" Honda. Also, there is a 450 at TLD that still needs to be spoken for. I'm sure the 22's have been taken off by now!!!

After two years, I thought it would be fun to re-visit this thread...

Looks like it's all moving in Honda's direction! New bike, lot's of great riders and new riders, I think that just like MEC, the podiums will have an awful lot of Red this year! 250 and 450. This could be a great year for Honda fans!!!

I hope so. I have been a fan of Team Honda since 1983 (since I could remember) when it had Hannah, O'Mara, Bailey, Magoo. Its Works and Factory bikes are beautiful....

Riders on a Factory Honda Bike:

K Dub
Reed
Canard
Barcia
Short

Very solid team with a mix of vets and youth.

I call Honda the Red-Menace. They got too big and cocky with both MC and RC. They thought they owned MC and they though Bubba would dethrone RC. I guess they called that wrong. They just need to buy a title like they used to in the old days.

Don't get me wrong, I love Hondas and love to look at their factory bikes, but as a factory team, they have their issues.

Did Zook buy a title when they signed RC?

One other note: Honda offered RC lower base salary and higher performance bonuses than Zook. RC took the guaranteed money.

Didn't know that. That explains a lot, though!

Of course, he's RC, aka an MX God, and the Red Menace wanted to pay him based on "performance". No way was he gonna take that, he didn't have to. It was an insult to him. RC has even said he would of made more money off the performance basis vs base salary. I think the Honda brass thought Bubba was the next big thing. I think that pissed off RC, he went to Suzuki with a chip on his shoulder and Honda hasn't had a title since. History don't lie.

All Honda did was motivate RC. Their mistake.

I'm kinding laughing here. You bumped a 2yr old thread about Honda "moving in the right direction." Well they dint win shit in those 2yrs and you're bumping a thread with pride? Barcia is def an upgrade from Grant, Trey has barely seen the bike in those 2yrs but I certainly hope that changes. Honda was the shit back when I started racing in 1991 and I have always loved the bikes but they havent done anything in motocross in forever. They better sign up Tomac next year or they will be fucked for awhile

I'm not a big Team Honda fan, but they are looking pretty good for '13.

I'm still wondering if there '13 450 was worth all the work.
