Finally, after years of painfully watched half-hearted riding a new tide is turning in the Big Red camp. Former glory, once just a painful memory, is now once again not just a fervent hope, but can now actually be seen coming to fruition!

And I'm not talking about Reed, but it is humorous to note that after years of Honda bashing and whining (There's too many damn Honda's on the track!-CR), he goes out and buys one WITH HIS OWN MONEY because he can't get a free one!!!
Wow! Didn't see that coming!

No, I'm talking about Honda factory house cleaning which will spice up the mix that had gone stale and sour. I'm not bitter, though!

Anyone else?!?, where are the long-suffering Honda fans out there???

Canard and JG is pretty exciting for Honda over what we have had the last few years.
Canard should have the consistency of Shorty and I think he can win some races. JG certainly has the ability to run up front as well.
Reed as a self sponsored privateer is interesting for sure. I don't think it will stay that way.

It's sad to think that Windham has been the most exciting guy on a Honda 450 over the last few years.

Canard has a lot of heart, and that will carry him far. Josh has speed but has lacked consistence and maybe focus. But, he has been on Honda's before and knows the deal.

As for Reed, I honestly don't see him on a Honda in the states. But, I guess it all depends on his results and sponsor money. It's good for the series if he comes back for supercross, though.

Milsaps damn near kills himself. Then Shorty breaks a leg pretty damn good while killing it in SX this year only to return to #2 outdoors and on the MX des Nations winning team and this guy is talking about half hearted efforts?

You never knew which Millsaps was going to show up...

Short, #3 outdoors, faded ever time! I truly like the guy and wish him the best, but he couldn't close the deal! And his MxoN rides weren't that spectacular. Dungey carried it.
Just my opinion.

From my post on Roger DeCoster a couple of months ago...

"Too true... It's the classic "Big Ego" syndrome. These big wigs sit back in their ivory towers and look at facts and figures on paper and think "Obviously our bike is the best, because it's winning. We don't need xxxxxxxxx because all we have to do is plug another body into this winning equasion and we'll keep rolling along. We are the best."

It's a pride thing. I've seen it time and again, mostly with Honda when it came to Carmichael, and also with Valentino Rossi. Two subjects that DON'T get brought up at Honda board meetings!"

Point taken...third. lol

Canards finishes in Colorado didn't scream awesomeness, either. Canard does breathe fresh air into big red but Grant is a case where previous performance predicts what he will do in the future. Kinda like Millsaps. Can win any day, you just don't know which one. That being said, hats off to all these guys, they just kill it and I love to watch them ride.

Honda's current state is way off the pace of the early glory years or even the MC or RC glory years. Canard is an exciting and talented rider with a public relations bonus as good as it gets but until he can dominate on the track by himself or Honda as a team can dominate on the track they will continue to stay in the shadows.

Can't wait to see Grant on it and Canard is Championship material.Honda definitely has momentum but Suzuki has consistency with Metcalfe and #1.Kawi cant seem to get anything going ,but that could change and Yamaha just let everything go.KTM is a huge ?.May take a year or two to sort out.

dont hold your breath... TC and JG can win theres no doubt about that but as heavily stacked as the 450 class is i dont see either one of them as consistant enough to take a championship. TC is damn close though just have to see how he stacks up against a healthy RV,CR, JS and the other riders who have stepped up. even CP will do better in SX as it doesnt require quite the stamina of The Great Outdoors... im actually looking forward to SX this year as its going to be great!

Way off the pace??? Are you insane? Honda has gotten the most podiums in both the last Supercross series, and this last Outdoor season!
Honda has there shit together, all that was lacking were riders with heart and a passion for winning. Canard beat Millsaps last year in Sx with almost no time on the bike and finished 5 out of 6 races on the podium. He is ready to peak, with the confidence of two titles under his belt.
Suzuki will miss RDeC, Reed on a new bike, Bubba hasn't raced, RV needs to find his legs again, Pourcel's never been on a 450 and has no deal anyhow, Short needs to learn the Kaboom, Alessi will fizzle out, like usual.

It all points to a Honda reserrection 2011.

How can you say they were not that spectacular? He took 1st in his qualifier...dead last to 13 with no clutch in Moto 1 and a 2nd in Moto two

Damn shame that I'm not a big Honda fan anymore. I've bought, sold, restored, traded and vintage raced damn near a hundred of them over the years. Got about twenty something of them in the garage currently and one really trick one being delivered at any moment. But Honda killing off their 2 stroke line really offended me. I'm sure they couldn't care less.

Honda dropping Short in exchange for Grant.....wow. Mr. Consistant for Mr. Hot or Not?? Got to wonder what they were thinking. But I'll give Grant credit, when he's on, he's on! Hopefully he'll keep it up on two next year and be in the Championship mix. Throws down a menacing pasty white gangsta look too!!

Your definition of "Honda's former glory" and mine are quite different it seems. When you see three red bikes on the podium (like Salt Lake this year) or a rider on one of those red machines rubbing the other brands face in it every week then Honda will have back what it once had.

I just have a feeling Canard is going to be the 'big' surprise in 2011, like Dungey was last year.
I think hiring Grant was a good move for Honda and will pay off . Not surprising though Honda got rid of Short and Milsaps. They canned Tedesco the year before and he was their best rider.

I don't think Honda really cares that they aren't running it like the glory days. Those days of one make dominating everything are pretty much over since all the factory bikes are so close in comparison.

As far as I can see... they still sell the most bikes and they aren't throwing money away on big name-big price riders.

I'm not saying that they don't care about winning. You don't race if you don't want to win. But it's foolish to say that's all they think about. They are in the business of selling bikes, not winning races.

Obviously, from a business point of view they don't find winning as the #1 way to sell bikes. If it was the best source of advertising Honda (by far the biggest company in MX) would have all the top riders and in return would sell an exponential amount of bikes.

But, what wins on Saturday doesn't sell on Monday. And that's why American Honda isn't funding their moto team like they used to.

Honda is not about going out and buying the top-shelf rider for top-shelf money. They prefer to keep it in-house and bring someone up through the ranks and develop them along with the bike. They have "grown" more champions than anyone.
What you get with Canard is a guy who is hungry to win and, (so far), loyal to the team. He's not afraid to bang bars if need be, and won't be happy to settle for 2nd, 3rd's 4th's or 5th's. He has beaten RD and RV on a lites bike, and will do it again on the 450. JG is a wild card who will throw down, also. I think being partnered with Canard can only be good for him, and maybe a little intra-mural rivalry is what he needs to stay motivated.

This is counter to what "neverwasfastenuf" was trying to convey.
And he speaketh the truth...

Back in the day...Yamaha recruited, groomed & equipped riders(gen from So Cal)only to watch them be wooed away a few years later by HRC with suitcases full of money.
3 legends come to mind...RJ, Hannah, Lechein...(you can also throw Sun, Stanton, Tripes, Lackey, Ellis and Pomeroy in there too) There was a time when Honda absolutely would approach rides with a bundle of money and buy there championships
Now, THOSE were the glory days of HRC!

That's a jaded way to look at it, I guess. But I think it's an insult to these greats to say they did it all for the money.
I think the truth is that Honda had the better, faster bikes, and were willing to spend whatever it took to win.
Let's not forget that of the "Big four" MC companies, Honda is the only one that started out as a motorcycle company. They had and will always have the passion to stay at or near the top of motorcycle competition.

I seem to remember a different story.
Hannah offered to ride Red for Bonuses only.
The Yamaha's were pretty far off the pace when he left them.

All the Teams look fairly close now, the best riders should be able to win on any of the top 5 mfgs machines.

Also, Rossi didn't want to stay with Honda, the Italian press was sure he couldn't win on anything else, and he wanted to prove them wrong.
Will be cool to see how he does on the Duc next season too.
