This thread lured me into the site a while back. Decided to join up! Lot's of good ol' 2-stroke riders here. This thread absolutely blows my mind. A lot of nostalgia here.. almost a little too much.....

Lol couldn't get it out of my mind and now I've set out on my own quest to score a bike similar to my first MXer, a 1995 CR125, and build it into a replica of the factory bikes of that year.

Awesome work and if this guy is still out there please post some more pictures and videos! There are a lot of guys that would love to see it run at least up and down the street haha. And BTW I know there are a lot of lurkers checking out this thread. It's like the #1 hit on GOOGLE for a couple different searches!

Thanks for the pics. That's just unreal to see. Nobody has nice 90's bikes anymore. They are just old enough that nothing but goons ride them.. and at the same time just new enough that people haven't committed to spend money to restore them..

I'm curious. Do you know if the later 125's used the longer 250 subframes and swing arms?? Seems like something cool to do with my '95 once I get going with it.

I'm pretty sure DPR no longer exists. It was a small Dutch pipe company owned by a guy who used to build pipes for Honda. This guy named Henk had 3 left sitting in his garage and I got one of them.

FMF is probably the only company that still makes a pipe for an '89 CR125, so that's what I'd go with if you're looking for a little more power. It won't affect reliability, don't worry.

Can you private message me with further questions? I don't mean to be rude, it's just that the topic gets bumped to the top for something that I could just as well answer privately.
After reading this thread I took contact with DPR and the claimed to have a pipe for my 96 cr125 in stock and they wanted 220euro for it. I transferred the money to them and waited a month without any pipe in the mail. I mailed them and they said they just discovered they didn't have any in stock so they made a new batch of 50 pipes. I waited another month, still no pipe in the mail. I called them and they said I have to wait another 2 weeks before they would have time to ship it. Since I'm tired of waiting I asked them to give me my money back. So, If any of you are keen on getting a DPR pipe and are willing to wait a while they are available.

I will go for a HGS instead.

Pat, have you ridden the bike yet?

It's a shame that they kept you waiting for so long. I didn't know they were still around.

I haven't ridden the bike. I keep it inside. My dad made a really nice wooden stand for it and it just sits there looking pretty.

Hi,
I am currently building a 1990 JMB replica cr125 also,
can you confirm what year rear end parts you fitted to your bike,
ie,
1990 250 swingarm.
1990 cr 250 complete pro link system???
----------------------------------------------------------
or just the 1990 swingarm??
------------------------------------------
as I have fitted the complete rear end of the 1990 cr 250,
and the shock is now laying on a steeper angle to yours,
any advice greatly appreciated,
Max

Hi,
after checking, I am sure my rear end is from a 1991 cr250,
and checking the oem parts list, the 90-91 rear end is slightly different!
so there may be why my unit is not sitting the same as your bike

An old thread, but a very nice job done and worth bumping to get some fresh eyes on it.

This build is being featured in the BikeBuilds.net directory here: Pat327's 1990 CR125

We're currently displaying only a reduced-size photo (similar to what you'd find in Google Images).  We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your build listing.

If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just send me a message with a link to the build thread and we'll take care of the rest.

I picked this thing up yesterday for $600. I've been looking for one for a long time and this thing happened to pop up on Craigslist. My dad had a 1990 CR500 and I've always been partial to the Hondas from that year.

Anyway, I'm going to restore this thing and get it looking and running as well as I can.

Any parts left over from this build I would love to buy them from you?

Well I finally took this thing out to the track for some laps. It had been sitting ever since I finished the build way back when. Crazy how time flies. I was 19 or 20 when I started this build and I’m 36 now!

Anyway, I replaced a couple leaky gaskets, changed the oil, topped off the coolant, replaced a disintegrated air filter, put some C12 in the tank, and it fired up after a couple kicks!

I’m way out of practice riding 125s and it definitely needs some carb/jetting work, but it was pretty cool to ride it! It’s like a little time capsule in more than a few ways for me, so it was a cool experience. And it even offered a nice bit of closure on what was a really fun project for me.

That said, I think I’m ready for the next one! I’m interested in finding a good home for this one if anybody might be looking to add a new (old) bike to their stables. Full disclosure, I did discover a couple more leaky gaskets after the ride that would need to be replaced. But otherwise, she’s in really good shape! I think I have a few parts in storage for it as well, like a complete frame, a few OEM bolts, some plastics, and maybe a few other bits. If you’re interested, let me know!

If you followed this build back in the day, thanks so much! It was a lot of fun and I have a ton of good memories from it. Some people were really nice and helped me with old magazine articles, parts, and knowledge. This was a bit early in terms of ‘90s bike builds and the resources available on the internet, so everyone’s help and encouragement was precious and much appreciated. Thanks for joining me on the journey!

Great to see that you finally took it for a spin! I remember your build very well, it inspired me to build this bike.

Pat - That is a sweet build. I let a buddy of mine ride my 1989 CR250 just so I could try out his new CR125 in 1990......I liked it so much, I almost didn't give it back to him! That's not only because it was a great bike, but that is how much the 89 CR250 sucked....

quit the 89 CR 250 was awesome! you just hated the forksSmile
