Back in the day we didn't need this stuff.  We had track snacks in the van to get us in the right frame of mind.

Him and Anderson are the only ones I remember taking a hit of the salts on the line and mentioning Anderson wouldn’t get a reaction from you 🤷‍♂️

& no technically the NFL didn’t ban them , the players can still use smelling salts , its banning the teams from giving it out to players

I have several bottles of smelling salts. I decided to try it on the start gate this summer and between the runny nose and teary eyes, it wasn't that bad. 😂

I just turn around and take a whiff of the C12 and 927 blend for the same effect.

Reading that just put a little hair on my chest.

They’re not banned in the NFL. The teams are prohibited from providing them to the players, but players are free to bring and sniff their own smelling salts if they bring their own stash.

Such a great example of how the internet over exaggerates and creates "fake news"

NFL BANS SMELLING SALTS and then everyone loses their minds saying they are avoiding concussion protocol with ammonia and riders are on PED's and they should be banned!!

Truth is they aren't banned and nobody cares, they are still mad and smelling salts are basically steroids

Playing hockey my whole life, smelling salts are everywhere in every locker room on every bench.  I have used them on occasion, and they do get you going especially if you are a little out of it (sick, drunk, hungover, injured, or just didn't get to warm up).

Same. You can buy them at a local hockey shop. I grabbed a bottle last year, while I was getting my skates sharpened. After long work hours and doing dad things, I figured I'd have it for when I'm dragging ass to the rink at 10pm on a Tues lol. It's decent for that, just a quick one before I go out onto the ice. I've never used them for moto, but I get the reason. I think for the NFL it's like mentioned, because they sort of are at the forefront of trying to "protect the players from themselves." And if players are potentially concussed and then using those and saying they are fine, then I guess there is a conflict there. I know Kittle (49ers) is very upset with this decision though, as he supposedly takes a huff before every drive lol.

I can see it in the NFL or NHL where they use them to get someone back on the field/ice after getting their bell rung, but using them for brief heightened awareness on the starts for supercross is harmless.

After getting their bell rung, it would seem to be more prudent to follow concussion protocol. If you have to use the salts to snap their attention back it seems to be masking the head trauma.

I can see it has an enhancement for breathing as noted above. Though Falcon said smelling salts are PED, google says it's not. Perhaps it is but not officially recognized as such.

I probably wasn't clear, I can see banning them in the NFL and NHL for the reason you stated.

Whether they are a PED is debatable but they're not a banned substance so it doesn't matter.

They are a PED. Here's my reasoning:

What's the dictionary definition of "drug?" Anything that changes they way the body operates. Clearly, smelling salts do this.

What do they do? Trigger an inhalation reflex, increase heart rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure. All beneficial to cardiovascular athletes.
