When a rider wins a Championship, he is allowed to use the #1 plate the following race season. So all of that year the rider can have the #1 plate on his motorcycle or any motorcycles that is built for sponsors for display purposes. And believe me, there are quit a few display motorcycles that are built and placed around the World. The rider and the sponsors that helped the rider and team achieve this difficult task of winning a Championship get to display these motorcycles and run advertisement of this achievement for the whole year. When I say race season or year, this usually means beginning of October to the end of September. Unless the same rider wins the Championship again, out of respect for the new Champion when the year ends the ex-Champion stops using the #1 plate and the new Champion begins to use the #1 plate.
There are a few circumstances that could change this:
If the rider is Supercross Champion but not Motocross Champion, the SX Champion would stop using the #1 plate and switch to his regular AMA number when the Motocross series starts.
If the rider is Motocross Champion but not Supercross Champion, the MX Champion would be able to use the #1 all year, but just wouldn't be able to race Supercross events with it.
If the rider is Motocross Champion but does not race Supercross, the MX Champion would be able to use the #1 all year, but just wouldn't be able to race Supercross events with the #1 (if rider chooses to compete).
If the rider is Supercross Champion but does not race Motocross, the SX Champion would be able to use the #1 all year, but just wouldn't be able to race Motocross events with the #1 (if rider chooses to compete).
I have just read why too much stuff about this #1 plate drama and decided to spend a few minutes trying to explain this as good as I could. If you personally still have a problem with it. You might want to look in the mirror and ask if there's another reason that your making a stink about such a non-issue. Sad to say, but the more I read some of your posts about see the #1 plate on James Stewart's bike, it sure seems like there are personal negativists, rather than true facts.
What a great way to keep people talking about James Stewart!
This if fucking pathetic.... "IMHO"
How about just RACING YOUR DIRT BIKE?
Pretty fucking simple... see Ryan Dungey/Roger Decoster for more detailed info on how to be professional.
FUCK!
Damn, look in the mirror, you're the one who is uptight!

Dungey’s Win on a Wild Night in St. Louis Gives Rookie 2010 Monster Energy Supercross Title Heading into Seattle
Lites Western Regional Championship Returns to Action
AURORA, Ill. (April 19, 2010) – One of the wildest nights in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, history produced a historic result last Saturday night from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. En route to winning his fifth race of the 2010 season, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey effectively claimed the 2010 AMA Supecross class championship and will officially claim the coveted number one plate this weekend from Seattle’s Qwest Field.
After reading all this I had to join.....
McGrath took the #1 plate off his bike and gave it to Emig in Vegas the year Emig won the championship.
Its a real shame that James has "fallen from grace". I am a fan of his ability on a motorcycle but for whatever reason drama really seems to surround the guy. All involved are responsible.
I wish the guy the best.
Is this an officially recognized (i.e. in writing) "race season" by the AMA, promoters, sponsors, etc? I ask because the timeline ironically coincides with this weekend's MXoN, and "usually" isn't a term commonly associated with formalized procedures.
Also, per the rules defined in Brooks' post, Stewart's bike at no time displayed the #1 plate prior to 10/01/2009, even though James was awarded the title in May. Does anyone have evidence to the contrary?
Let's face the facts: James held the #1 supercross plate from the last lap of Vegas 2009 to the last lap of Vegas 2010. The display at the MXoN mocks both Ryan Dungey and the fans. If the shoe were on the other foot, L&M would be raising the rafters. However, we probably won't see such a public display by Team Suzuki and its management.
Pit Row
Cool that Brooks gets on here and fights for his riders. Not many managers in this sport are willing to do that.
Bubs hasn't really done himself any favors, however.
Too much positive bench racing to do this weekend to contrive drama from this nugget.
Can not wait to A1. I hope James is focused, in shape, and ready to rock. Bet he wins at least 8 races.
Leave LB, JS7 and Sam Manual alone.
Business is business. Now STFU you whiney babies.
keep licking that wound, pussy.
and where did i bash james in this thread? you're the catchers mit in a bukkake
Get real, dude.
I didn't say that you were hiding behind a fake name, I said that you were hiding behind a keyboard whilst talking a big game, which you are.
I know it seems strange that the race industry would work their calendar from October through September, but they do. Many contracts start in October, so riders would have time to adjust to a new motorcycle and start testing as early as possible before the Supercross series starts. Then it would run 12 months and then it would end at the end of September, unless the rider had a 2 year contract and then they would work off of a 24 month term.
It seems many of you just don't really understand how the motorcycle industry works and I wouldn't think you would unless you worked it. Not trying to be a jerk, only try to educate and help you understand why. Take it or leave it, because this is getting old.
Man you guys spend a lot of time arguing about stupid things and you look way too deep into things. Always thinking there a conniving reason someone is doing something. Even if it's an innocent deal, your just way to fast to jump on it and make a big deal out of nothing.
