F1…the movie…non-spoiler

I went last night, very good movie.  Quick 2.5 hour movie.  I got same Steve feeling about it.  

Haven't seen it yet, but plan to. I get you're "Top Gun" reference.

I watched "Top Gun" for the first time with my Dad. Every 5 minutes he was calling out bullshit. "That's not how that happens", "No F-ing way they could pull that shit", etc, etc, etc.  It was annoying then, but I'd love to be able to do it again....  RIP, Cap't Gary!

Thanks for the report, Manny. We have a group going this Monday to watch. I feel better about it now as I was expecting the “Hollywood” angle to overshadow the F1 experience. 

The bike on the Hitch / Tow Bar rack was a 'tell', from the get go, with regards to McQueen ( and, you can certainly say,  Malcom) ! Both the Brand and the 'Vintage' of it.

I picked the right session yesterday to see it, during a break from delivering a pair of Uni presentations - there was about 5 people in my session, to then come out to a veritable horde waiting for the next screening.

It was quite an OK movie. Considering just how much utter crap that so many 'block busters' have been for years now, that's a Ringing Endorsement from me. So many 'Sports' movies are so bloody cringe worth - this, had mercifully few of those types of moments, thankfully.

So, it did a good job, as did RUSH, and Ford vs Ferrari, as far as I'm concerned. McQueen's Le Mans  is one of my earliest memories as a youngster in '71, and remains a firm favourite of mine.

And, there's the delectably cute Kerry Condon in it, too!  I've been a fan of her since her first movie in '99. She is a remarkable acting talent. 

I'm not sure if it will ever happen, but there's been a projected (pun!) Movie about Mike Hailwood's return to the IOM in 1978 on the Ducati, with Eric Bana involved. I truly hope it happens, as EB is quite the Motorsports person. Check out 'Love The Beast', if you can, about his car he had since he was a teenager, and his ( and his mates) love for it, and, Him 'killing' it in the Targa Tasmania. 

Add me to the list that thought it was a really good movie!

Alright… Now, I wanna check it out. 

What I don’t understand about Pitt…

We grew up about 40 miles apart, are within a few months in age (he’s older). 
But yet, I’m sooo much better looking!

Saw it yeterday with my GF and we both really liked it.  She doesn't know anything about F1 and still really enjoyed it. Its always a fine line to not dumb down racing movies too much for big fans and not be over the head of non fans and I think this is one of the better attempts at it.  

His van was fucking awesome too 😂

Man, I’mookimg forward to seeing this and will opt for imax if possible. 

I think the one and only time they (Cruise and Pitt) were in a film together was “Interview with a Vampire” which I haven’t seen.

Did anyone else immediately recognize the first announcer’s voice? 

It even showed him for a second.

It's a genuinely Enthusiastic interview - not the "obligated to do the promo stuff thing" ( though, he's going to have to do a hell of a lot of that 'yapping', as a friend of mine in film calls it). 

I wonder if he gets to keep one of those modified F2 cars? I'd say he's got the 'pull' ( and, $$$$)  if he wanted one as a souvenir. 

Yes, I've long known he's Not the typical 'poseur' with Bikes and Cars. Much like  Keanu Reeves being so into bikes, so much so he's got that far into them with his partnership in Arch Motorcycles. 

I should have watched that interview prior to seeing “F1” last night.  Honestly, I struggled to sit through it. Found the script contrived, the acting lackluster, and the driving sequences, while innovative, couldn’t carry the film. Of course the viewer has to suspend reality (much like “Top Gun”), but the story simply wasn’t compelling.  But the people we saw it with really liked it. So what do I know!

Worst part of the movie! 😁 

A lot of Hollywood in it but I still enjoyed the shit out of it. It was waaaay better than I expected. The only thing I will say is I wish Martin Donnelly would have gotten a small speaking part.

Good interview with Brad. I really did not know he was that into motorsports. I always liked him as an actor and wish I would have seen this interview before the movie. 

Liked the movie. It was exciting and the cinematography was off the hook! 

Always good to see these type of movies along with Top Gun at the BIG screen.

His Van was awesome and brought back many memories of my first vehicle, which was a 72 Econoline--"three on the tree".
