Great interview with Steve Mathes... no wonder Roczen moved to KTM because of him..he is the best 450 Team manager in the States...seems very honest and interesting that he has such a close relationship with Sylvain Geboers and feels bad about Roczen moving from Sylvain's team based on him.

It says a lot about how good Ken is that Roger has known him for a while already... the bad thing for Suzuki is no other rider can replace Roczen in the States or GPs..apart from Herlings and KTM have him too...It will be interesting to see who Suzuki GP team sign now.. and the same can be said for Decoster.. a major double blow for that team..lets hope for their sake they can keep Desalle and Dungey this season.

By the sound of that interview...

I think it is crazy that Suzuki didn't even really sit down with him(Roger) about a contract offer/negotiation until he had already committed to KTM.
Sounds like after he decided to go to KTM ,then Suzuki was ready to deal/didn't want to lose Roger.

Suzuki tried to call his bluff?

Listen to the interview...
The way it sounded to me,they didn't want to deal with him til after he committed to KTM,like they didn't want to really lose him. It also sounds like Dungey went to bat for him,
but Suzuki would not give him an answer.

I think it was Sylvain Geboers who told suzuki to keep him too... The Bosses in Japan not only lost DeCoster out of this ... they lost Roczen for GPs and USA ... and potentially Dungey.

Well worth the 20-minutes!
DeCoster has been one of my favorites since the late sixties and there weren't bandwagons, back then!
Thanks, mcread for posting.

Their loss will/should definitely be KTM's gain. Wink

It should be interesting to see what Team Suzuki 2011 looks like here in the Sates and how well they do and what kind of impact this will have on them.

good interview. His comment and I paraphrase "management doesnt have any idea what is happening in the field..." is priceless.

Corporations at work trying to save a few bucks. Geniuses! They'll pay this mistake for the next 10 to 15 years. At best they'll go back to that B level they were when Honda ruled. Maybe that's what they can only afford?

maybe so, but this industry, and most others for that matter, is loaded with guys who sit in offices so far removed from what happens on a daily basis in the field and make decision based off what they "think" is going on rather than on reality.

Too true... It's the classis "Big Ego" syndrome. These big wigs sit back in their ivory towers and look at facts and figures on paper and think "Obviously our bike is the best, because it's winning. We don't need xxxxxxxxx because all we have to do is plug another body into this winning equasion and we'll keep rolling along. We are the best."

It's a pride thing. I've seen it time and again, mostly with Honda when it came to Carmichael, and also with Valentino Rossi. Two subjects that DON'T get brought up at Honda board meetings!
