Some guys really struggle with the transition to 450's but RJ has surprised the hell out of me and is making the transition look fairly easy with great results (so far). Being that RJ and Deegan have kind of similar hang-it-out riding styles, I wonder if Deegan's transition will be a little easier than some think. If RJ is pulling 6th place moto finishes in this field (with recent wrist surgery), I have to wonder where Deegan might finish if he's just as comfortable with the transition?
Hopefully we have a 5 way battle next year with Jett, Tomac, Chase, Prado, and Deegan. I don't see Prado doing much until next year, but I do think he'll get there after he learns the ropes this year. Maybe Vialle will surprise us on a 450 as well? Next year 450MX really has a lot of potential.
Deegan is on a whole different level than Oldshire.
I think that’s kinda his point ?
Don't forget Hunter...he's been on the podium more times than not...
Deegan has been practicing on a 450 for a long time. He'll be fine.
I also think Vialle will be better on the 450 outdoors than he has been in 250s. Think Marvin-esque.
RJ will also get into the mix even deeper this year. He's going to get a couple of moto podiums this year and if healthy will get it on the box indoors. He's really fast. His issue is it's not consistent for a myriad of reasons.

Would be cool to see Jordon Smith on a 250 in sx and a 450 outdoors. RJ is doing a good job, I thought he’d be a top 8 guy and has had some good speed.
Oldshire has 4 overall wins scattered over his 240 years in 250 class. He has not changed the whole time he's been racing. He's fast but constantly and predictably makes mistakes. Just like his fellow geriatric, Jordan Old.
Love a joke and good fun. But this belongs in the smx pride post.
Like a lot of guys on here I’d love to be as “old” as those 2 guys that are living out their dreams and doing very well at it. Sometimes it’s better just to be happy for folk and move on with your day.
I think I'm starting to get it. You dont think what you write is funny, you think it's funny when people take your trolling seriously. Because for someone that tries so hard to be funny you never nail it.
This idea that elite 250 riders are going to somehow 'struggle' on a 450 is always comical to me.
I always thought RJ would be better on a 450. It seemed obvious
I thought this exact same thing. The 450 suits some people better. On a 250 its pretty much all or nothing, full send or not. The 450 power lets you explore, move around try different ruts.
James said it best during the broadcast. RJ rode that 250 as hard as he could, which you don’t need to do on a 450.
RJ rode the 250 HARDER than he could, which was the problem. So far it looks like the 450 has helped his decision making as well, but we haven't really seen enough to know if he's changed his stripes completely.
I hope he has, he seems like a good dude, but man sometimes you just wanted to strangle him with some decisions he made.
I’m not sure “making it look easy” is the way to put it cause if that was the case he would be leading laps. Saying that he’s making it look like he belongs in my opinion.
Fair enough, but the larger point is people expecting RJ to suddenly be a different rider. He's RJ and he's had a very very very long time to show what he's about. The 450 won't change that drastically.
Calm down Glamma Boy.
They'll never truly understand the brilliant mind behind Mr Corpse.

You should consider giving up being a complete tool and bench race on here like a regular human.
I've felt for a while that RJ would do well on a 450. It's early days but I think it's going to go well.
Okay Motomike. Tell me how you disagree with the statement that Deegan is on a different level to Oldshire?
Yes, early days is the operative word. Lets see if Old J has suddenly changed how his whole career has gone. Perhaps if his dick wasn't wedged in your mouth so hard you'd be able to look at this rationally.
Just out of surgery from having a bone removed from his wrist... Running top 5 and dropping P6 moto's is pretty impressive for the guy not expected to do anything in the deepest field ever. Ahead of guys like Stewart and Webb and only 3 points from P6 in the standings. Maybe not "easy", but he's doing great so far.
The transition to 450 is never a problem outdoors. The real test comes in SX.
Dude it's just the constant snark and crappy things you say that wear me out. I have a feeling you could be fun to banter with if you backed it down a notch or two. As for Haiden vs RJ we have no sample size to go on. Do I think Haiden will be a cut above RJ? Yes I do but I also believed for a while that RJ could run top ten easily, top five frequently and maybe even scratch out a podium. He has been overriding the crap out that 250 for years and so far he looks like he appreciates the power of the 450 and that he doesn't have to wring its neck to get things done.
We see it often. Lots of 250 champions get hurt their first year on 450.
The current SX champ might beg to differ on that.
Jett made it look easy. RJ is making it look do-able.
I don't think Deegan does amazing things on a 450 his first year or two. At least not if he tries his mental games or overly aggressive techniques on one of these seasoned guys. He's an amazing talent, and if he keeps his head on straight will compete for titles of course, but the first time he tries hucking one of these vets off the track he's gonna get humbled real quick. As far as RJ goes, love cheering for him but it was so hard watching him in the 250's. He'd be riding incredibly but would inevitably end up on the ground. I do think so far the 450 has mellowed out his balls to the walls style he had on the smaller bikes.
