Just spotted this report. All 3 US boys in top 10. Very stereotypical Italian track. looks a beautifull place up there in the hills. looking at laptimes on official site theyre all going the same speed. Could be anyones race. Hoping Jimmy Albertson gets a good send off.

David Philippaerts and Ken Roczen won the final qualification of 2010, but there were a host of surprises ... from riders still looking for contracts !

With both MX1 and MX2 title already decided there was a degree of final GP blues at Fermo, but the awesome hillside track, sunshine for most of the day and the prospect of a stunning GP tomorrow kept everybody on their toes.

Roczen was never able to escape from Marvin Musquin in the MX2 race but there was little movement on the leaderboard. In their wake the battles were on, Zach Osborne advancing to 8th before the gap to 7th was just too big and Michael Leib proving what he is capable of by taking a stocker from 14th to 9th.

Jake Nicholls was a steady 13th and Matiss Karro 17th but Shaun Simpson had to come back from nearly last following a second lap incident and Mel Pocock also dipped out on the top 20.

Philippaerts had looked strong all day in MX1, throwing the factory Yamaha around with abandon on the massive jumps and he simply steamrollered qualfication, possibly spurred on by the fact that Clement Desalle, 21 points away in the table, was struggling after his Lierop crashes.

Toni Cairoli was a subdued 4th as Sebastien Pourcel and Nico Aubin sought to improve their value in the transfer market. Another to exceed his usual form was Jimmy Albertson in 9th.

It wasn't such a bad day. I was 3rd in the pre-qualifying practice and set myself up good for the race but I got hit by a rock in the mouth on the first lap and I was more worried about that than racing so it wasn't the best! But I still have a good gate for tomorrow and I want that 4th spot in the championship soooooo bad! Fingers crossed boys!

It's just been a horrendous year for Sebastien Pourcel. Hopefully he can turn things around tomorrow and end the season with some sort of confidence boost.

What's funny is how guys like Aubin and Seb Pourcel show up when they feel like it. I have a feeling it has something to do w/reminding teams of their worth before the seasons over. Both of them have been a complete non factor all year and both come out swinging today. Aubin actually worked his way up to DP19 and passed him for the lead around lap 7. He only lead for a lap but still awesome for him. Then he faded back a little and Seb Pourcel worked up to DP running the fastest lap times of the race late in the heat on lap 10. The crazy thing is Cairoli was right there in 4th(only 1 sec behind 3rd most of the way) the whole race and couldn't do anything with Aubin , Pourcel or DP. Although he usually doesn't go more than 90% in qualifying heats.

It's hard pack. Pourcel has always done well in hard pack. His conditioning has also been off from being hurt all year. Riding hard pack takes way less endurance than sand. Allows you to see a riders true speed sometimes.

thx for the lesson in soil differences. lol. I obviously from 30 years of racing understand the difference between sand and hard pack. Pourcel and Aubin have been a non factor on every soil this year..
