I show up tonight at my buddies private track and am told to watch for someone really fast out there. A minute later, over the biggest jump comes Doug jumping farther than most dare, takes the next corner like the champ he is then blasts up the next hill wide open. Seeing him ride in person is great, but to ride with him after all he's been through is special. I won't get into how fast he still is, but he can hang with most am. riders pretty easily. Natural talent can't be learn, and after tonight I feel it can't be lost no matter what's in your way.

Many may give up after what he's been through, but even after a few crashes he was still smiling and probably did the most laps. Hopefully he comes back soon, there isn't a more approachable rider out there, he made alot of peoples day. Just thought some people would be interested, since a little while back someone asked what he was up too.

Doug invited me up to ride and man I couldn't believe how fast he was on that bike! My buddy is a expert and he was pulling away from him! I did a really good interview with him and also got helmet cam footage of him riding.
Here is the link to watch the interview and riding.

I also saw him at Southwick and he was all smiles. I bought 3 of the Heal Clothing benefit shirts that said Henry Highway on them.

Inspiration to all is a understatement!

Chris, haven't seen you up at Granville in awhile. That's where Doug went tonight. I saw your interview with him, it was really well done. He sure opened alot of eyes on people who thought they are fast. His bike is nuts and when he crashes it seems alot safer than most might think. His skills are incredible, it's nuts how fast he can corner on that bike. I just wish I had my camera and not just a camera phone.

Dam I sure would have came up tonight if I knew he was riding! Yeah I know his corner speed and throttle control is unreal! I can't imagine not being able to ever put my foot down! I got my camera fixed so maybe next week I will head up and shoot pics for everyone! I love that track for riding! Pics, video and teaching it isn't the best. That is another reason I haven't been around. I need a track that has good viewing for the lessons so I've been using other tracks the last couple months.

I think some of the riders that complain about little things that hurt them speed wise should just sit and watch Doug. Maybe that would help them realize how fortunate they are. Doug is a huge inspiration to me, and a ton of others as well.

Dude, that's awesome. I'd love to spend a fraction of a day with Doug Henry!

Also, Chris. I watched your interview a long time ago, and it rocks!

Doug IS Motocross. He is also just about the toughest sob to ever throw a leg over a bike.

Thanks for telling a great story!

Doug just continues to amaze, both as a rider and as a person. I wished I had half of his heart!

your so right some riders complain about the stupidest stuff like I cant ride with hand guards the grips are not right the list goes on and on
I talk with Team owners and managers about this and I say who is paying the bills they should ride what you give them and be happy they have a ride
sure the bike needs to be set but dont complain about the small stuff
Doug Henry is the man doesnt complain I have spent a lot of time BSing with Doug
and he is funny guy brakes all our balls and will not be beaten on a dirt bike no matter how hard we try he always finds away to win it pisses all of us off but thats why doug is and was the best in the world

Man, doug henry is the biggest inspiration I know. I used to get giddy when I would see him show up at nesc races on his factory honda back in the day when I was racing 80s...the man is a LEGEND. I'd be honored to even ride the same practice track as him

Thanks! Half of those questions came from the people here on Vital. I started a thread "If you can ask Henry one question what would it be?"

I actually thought we we're going to have to stop filming when he was talking about getting hurt. We all started to get choked up!

My prediction with Doug is that in ten years from now he will come back and race the Southwick National and easily qualify! He was walking on his own at Southwick with the help of his arm braces. Kind of like Jimmy Button. Once Doug can do everything normal again it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him line back up once more!

We were all about to tear up then all the sudden he turned it all about with "but today I'm going riding!!" and had a big smile!

Best MXer of all time in my book. Great interview Chris the Honda-departure-bitter question was my suggestion back when you were asking. Good stuff.

Awesome post Matt. I know he said he was heading up there to ride sometime soon. The support at Southwick from everyone with the Henry Highway shirts we did was amazing. We did a VIP section for people to watch the races with him and Doug enjoyed being able to hang out with the fans like that and getting a section of the track name after him is awesome.

There are some pictures of the VIP section and Southwick stuff on the site if anyone is interested in seeing them http://www.healclothing.com/southwick-2010-gallery/southwick-2010-henry…

Thanks again for sharing Matt, might see you up there with him one day.
