Just accepted a job offer in SW Michigan. Growing up in Illinois, knowing Redbud will now be 20 mins away... I'm friggin' stoked! I've gathered there are a bunch of tracks within a 2 hour radius just from searching Google. I wanted to know if any of you locals are part of a good Facebook group or riding club? I'd love to start being more friendly at the track now that this should become home for the foreseeable future. Cheers!

Some of the locals can chime in and help you out, but I think you will be stoked with the riding. Martin Mx will be in your backyard and is one of the nicest tracks in the Midwest.

Dutch and Log Road will be your other go to. You'll see some of the fastest old school Michigan Mafia at those tracks.

Michigan has so many tracks, its a great state for moto.  I love Log Road, as someone else mentioned Martin is also a very good track. I've heard great things about Battle Creek mx, you got Moto Xtreme in hillsdale, and tons more.  Its one of the best areas for motocross.

Welcome, you’re right, there are many tracks within a reasonable distance, and private tracks too. Moto is really strong here and the of course the best dirt, plus we’ve got great beaches.

That is a great area for riding. I made my first trip to Log Road this past weekend for the LLAQ. Vet class turnout wasn’t great, but the track was fun. Nice facility. Also heard good things about Martin MX.

Welcome to Michigan! What we lack in weather, we make it up in a lot of riding places. Honestly, I wouldn't bother about joining any of the riding groups on Facebook because most of them are cesspools of people complaining about everything under the sun or trying to sell their clapped out two stroke.

As far as tracks go, southwest Michigan for race tracks you have Redbud, Dutch Sport Park, Log Road, Battlecreek Motorcycle Club. These tracks hold a couple practices a year, but are mostly only open on race days. Zeigler MX which is owned by Zeigler motorsports is a practice only track that is right across the street from the dealership. Its a woodchip/loam track which is fun. Supercoop MX which is sandy. Moto Xtreme is new in the area too. Twisted MX is right up the road from Supercoop.

Moving to mid-Michigan you have Portland Motorcycle Club, Martin MX, Baja Acres, and Bulldogs MC (Michigan Southwick). Martin MX is strictly a practice track that is prepped in prestine condition and owned by Paul who is an absolute fanatic about track prep. A lot of fast guys practice here and throughout the year they host a bunch of events such as professional riding coaching, factory teams usually practice there leading up to Red Bud national, and they hold bike demos too. Baja Acres is probably the roughest track in Michigan and has deep sand. Lots of big amatuer nationals held here and they have weekly practice usually. Portland Motorcycle club is only open on race days and is club owned. Bulldogs is deep deep sand. Basically Michigan Southwick.

Moving north, you have Big Air MX which has been around for forever. Fun track, lots of big jumps (hence the name) but is pretty one lined and closes down every year at the end of September due to local ordinances. Valley MX & Morelands SX which are on the same property. Valley MX is a big motocross track, very high speed. Morelands SX is a fair style sx track that is open 7 days a week and they hold their own race series during the summer that takes place under the lights at night. Mecosta MX was just built last year and is another great practice only track that is open weekly. Also, Polka Dots MC which is a fun topsoil/sand track that is mostly only open on race day.

Outside of motocross tracks there are is a huge network of single track and offroad trails that are open and a great alternative when tracks get rained out. Most of the trails are all deep sand so they are perfect after a rain. There is also a big rise in Sprint Enduro racing that are being held at motocross tracks.

The hot tire combo for Michigan is MX3SF & either an MX34, MX14 scoop, or MX33 rear. Most of our tracks are sand and loam mix with a slightly hard base. Scoop in the morning and move to a MX34 rear in the afternoon.

I'm probably missing some tracks, but the idea is that there is no lack of riding areas. Plus there are a lot of big name suspension companies in the state like TCD, MCR, Tech-Care, Speed Technologies, and Enduro Engineering along with a lot of dealerships that support the moto scene.

Have fun! Lots of fast locals and we Michigan people are pretty polite and nice. Better get practicing your "opes" hahaha

Forgot to mention, we also have the Silverlake Sand Dunes which is Michigan Glamis. You'll need a scoop tire, spark arrestor, and riding flag to rip here. Just keep your eye out for sand rails, jeeps, SXS's, and idiots on Quads.

Michigan is moto heaven...and don't forget the 3500 miles of single track up north. Enjoy!

Thank you for the detailed write up. And YES on the rear tire thing. Before I moved to Colorado, I used to have a second rear wheel for my YZ250 that had a scoop tire. Riding Sunset Ridge in IL, LTMX in IN, and Redbud all the time, swapping tires after the first few motos was clutch. I'll definitely be doing that again once I get settled in. Being on this hardpacked, baked, dry dirt in Colorado made me miss that Midwest loam...

As you mentioned, there are off-roading opportunities too. I am hoping to upgrade my bike in the next year. Currently on a 250SXF but with all the sand, loam, and trail riding/dunes riding, I'm considering a 350. I can get around pretty well on this 250, and with deeper conditions my idea is the 350 will take less of a beating motor-wise. I'm not much of a 450 guy...
