So many of these racers are afraid to look bad..

pulling out of races all the time because they're not prepared.

(The best way to prepare for Racing is to Race.... )

So you knock down a top 15 & you expected a top 5 - so what, just keep racing.

Preparation & conditioning = Essential,

but if you just keep waiting to race

& get hurt practicing your that much further behind.

If you can race at the pro level, just race.

I agree

Alessi is a exception though.

Reed, Jlaw, Stewart and RV can all ride a bike. They dont want to race cause they dont think they are ready.
I am sure non of them would come last.

Stop being obtuse, if they wanted to ride they could. hahahaha I just used the word obtuse. Been wanting to do that since Shawshank Redemption.

If you are not ready to race, for whatever reason, and you do, your chances of injury increases significantly.

Be ready or don't race

That's being smart

I'll just take Reed as an example...

does the guy really need to prove anything, to anybody? I mean, I'm not really a big fan of the man, but I have to give him credit where it's due. If he doesn't feel like racing, God bless him... he can go ride for fun. He has earned that.

Let's not forget that deep down at the bottom of it all, it's about fun.

None of these guys owe it to us to have their desires match ours.

The best way to prepare to race is to race???
Seriously?
At the Pro level?

Surely you jest sir! That might work for us mere mortals, but for guys as fast as the current crop of Pros it's not a wise choice. Non of us can truly understand what it takes to race at that level. Sit back and really think about how it. We have all scared ourselves while racing, but imagine going twice (or more) the speed over the same section. You think your tires are on the verge of losing traction? Imagine the same tires at twice the speed.

How about the loss of control you get when you get tired? Imagine what could happen to a Pro at twice the speed?? You get the idea, right?

I guess something was lost in translation.
I'm talking more about conditioning here- Yeah if you think you're gonna fall off the bike & get broke up -don't race,
but if you just think you're not gonna place high enough to get respect - that's not a good enough reason. IMO

So what rider were you referring to that pulled off instead of racing for a mid pack finish?

Guess I'm not thinking of one in particular TK, just seems to be a trend lately w/ a lot of guys.
Maybe I'm the only one that thinks It's OK to have a few bad motos & still keep workin forward.
IDK
I just think you might as well get in the action before the action is outta reach.

They owe the people who pay them, what the hell is wrong with you guys. They dont ride for free they are being paid dam good to be out on the track racing. Until they start putting clauses in their contract for no pay while injured this crap will continue to happen.

I feel bad for the sponsors who put out millions to get their product out there and these guys would rather sit on the sideline. Such BS

And one more thing, I have to give it up for Josh Hill, he may have talked some smack at the begining of the SX season but atleast he sacked up and rode through his injuries and pain. He didn't place as well as he should have but he was out there.

Reed and Stewart pull out during races because they can't mentally handle not being near to or on the podium - even if it is for legit reasons. If thye can't win, they would rather pull off and keep it a mystery - and not talk to Erin or anyone about it. They're dealing with the embarrassment of not winning (or doing well) so they choose to manage their embarrassment by quitting and not finishing the race as opposed to finishing it and getting lapped by the leader. It's some weak ass shit if you ask me. Can you tell I don't like quitters?

What did KW do when he came off the couch this season - did he finish races? What did RV do last SX season in the first few races when he wasn't up to speed - did he finish if he wasn't in the top 3?

Reed and Stewart have brought a TON of excitement to the sport no doubt - for that I'm thankful. But they've also shown by example that it's ok to quit if you're not winning. My thoughts are - if you can't go out there and finish a race (regardless of where), don't line up in the first place. I've never given up in any sport I've played in my life. I rode bulls growing up. I played baseball since I was 4. I played basketball, football, and baseball through high school. I played rugby in college. The only way I was stepping on the field, court, or pitch and not stepping off it at the end of the game was if I was getting carried off it - unconscious that is. Never give up, never quit. Quitting is for losers.

How long did you race at this level?
So your point is "someone has to race at the the AMA Pro level to know how not be a quitter?" Umm, I'm going to assume reading and comprehension isn't one of your strengths. 99.9% of the people on this site haven't ridden at the AMA Pro level, but that doesn't mean they can't figure out quitting and just giving up is weak.

My point is simple. Don't start something you can't or don't intend to finish. Respect isn't inherited, it's earned. I've been pretty outspoke in my dislike for Larry Brooks because I think he always has a certain level of drama surrounding his riders/team, but I gotta give him props. I can't recall him ever quitting, to that I give him major props.

Not drinking. Also not going to get into an internet sword fight either. It's a really nice morning here in AZ and I'm taking my 7 year old to the track to have some fun. Anyone who wants to be a fan of and support a quitter is perfectly fine with me.

I'm an RV fan, if he ever pulls a Reed/Stewart pull off, I'll be off the bandwagon as fast as I possibly can.

Have a good one.

What injury did RV have during the first three SX that kept him from winning? So RV got his ass kicked because he wasn't prepared and he's a warrior but JBS and CR22 have actual injuries and ride and they are pussies?

How many millions of dollars were at risk for you and your family when you were playing sports?
Reed and Stewart have been at the very top of their sport and currently hold multi-million $
careers in their hands.
They have experience, motivation, and risk that you'll never understand.

Why pretend like you can relate?
