The excitement in the 450 class went out the window when James decided not to ride the last 3 rounds. Face it, RD will more than likely gap the field in at least one moto per round and when he doesn't get good starts he's not that exciting to watch come through the pack. Dungey is really putting it down, but he's almost so consistant and polished that he's boring to watch ride. I know, it's crazy, but it's true.

Haters have fun, but the races are a lot less fun to watch without James out there. That's just MHO.

I was going to come back with a smart-as remark, but I'm going to be on the level with you.

I like Dungey as a rider. As a matter of fact when i was talking to Stephon before A1 this year I said "watch out for Dungey" he's a darkhorse. He's driven, likeable and focused on racing, but with that being said, he's boring to watch on the track.

I've been into MX since I was little and I'm almost forty now so I've seen a few racers before. Dungey is fast, but he doesn't take that extra chance. He doesn't pull out something that makes you say wow. The guys back in the 80's did and that's what has always caught my eye. Ward, Johnson, Bailey, MC, Emig, RC, JS and even RV do that when they are on the track. I'm not trying to knock on him, because he is a great young rider, just not very exciting to watch ride IMO.

Sorry, I thought he was in sixth place? Has he climb recently, or have he been top three for a while? Damn, I don't follow the GPs enough. USA has made me a bit ignorant towards the GP? Sick

Hey P, what would "be more exiting" if you were Dungey? He has won all but one round and will most likely wrap it up this weekend.. I mean really, what do you want the guy to do? Honestly, answer that question..What do you want Dungey to do? Hang it out for no reason? Scrub more for no reason? Talk shit about another rider? What is it that you want? Get a life, dude. Another thread for this?
Boring is when James went 24-0 against nobody. It didn't even look like James. Was he flashy then? No. But you only see through James colored glasses. Now you can tell me about my reading, right? You're a loser that just got shit on by your hero, but still a loser.

What the fuck does talking shit about another rider have to do with being exciting on the track???

And yes, James going 24-0 was pretty boring as well because like you said, he didn't "look like James."

Winning doesn't equate with being exciting. Apparently you aren't smart enough to understand that.

Now do me a favor and step the fuck off.

Dungey was plenty exciting to watch in the Lites class while he was really pushing it. I don't really think he has had to really push to win yet this year. Just my opinion.

While I'm stating my opinion, I don't believe James is a real racer at heart. He likes to win, but I don't think he really likes to race. Maybe he used to love racing, I don't know. Now he's on a different level, big money, big sponsors, public relations and all that, but for us, the race fans, it's just boring. I'd much rather watch Metcalfe go out and bust ass to get on the podium. At least he's putting his heart into it.

Not a real racer at heart...........I guess you haven't followed his career. He's been racing since he was 4 I believe. He could be just a little burnt out, maybe just a little.

BTW, do you really think that the guys like Metcalfe are racing for fun??? They race for the check and the possibility of winning a title. Don't be mistaken.

After racing for damn near 20 years at a very high level, traveling all across the country and the world, dealing with the BS in the sport it might be getting old to him. I can't really blame him. Not to mention the injuries. I know that I wouldn't want to go to the races every week.

I like what you said about the 80's....and I agree.

However, you have to also remember alot of those guys got hurt often, just as James has over the years. Dungey has really escaped alot of injury compared to alot of other riders from the past that have been in his spot.
I mean heck, wasn't he racing the B class a little over 4 years ago....and now he is at the TOP of the sport winning in the premier class???
He is doing something right...... Smile

I'm not saying that Dungey is doing anything wrong or that he should change up his riding style, I'm just saying that he's boring to watch ride. When RC would fall or get a bad start he was balls out. I like to see that in a rider. Dungey is more Chad Reed than RC if you ask me. He's smooth and consistant and will never really ride outside of his comfort zone. I'm not saying that is bad, I'm just saying that it isn't very exciting to watch.

On James reality show I liked it (even though it was a typical reality show staged moment) when James told his Mom and Dad that he wasn't racing the outdoors. Big James said something like "where racers that's what we do, we race"

The more of Big James I see the more I like him. IMO little James needs to start listening to him more.

James or no James. Dung Beetle would have gapped the field anyway.

SX is gonna be off the chain next season! Dungey riding with his confidence that he will win. James wanting to let everyone know that he is the fastest rider on the planet, Reed giving it everything he has for his final season, and Pourcel making his presence known. There is no way I not going to Anaheim1 !!!!!

I'm with P.. Dungey is clearly a bad ass, no question. But as a fan that watches, well downloads races to watch for entertainment, he is generally a very dull winner/champion. But theres not much he can do about it until the competition step up their game. Its incredible riders like Grant who can clearly go faster than Dungey, so rarely beat him. Can't wait till his old rival Pourcel is back in the mix!
8/27/2010 6:32am
Yup, I agree with P in alot of what he is saying. Bubba was FUN to watch. I miss that. And, I miss Poto....and Carmicheal.. and Bradshaw. And, I REALLY REALLY miss Henry.

But, I must digress. If Dungey can go that fast, that in control without hanging it out too much, he just might be one of the most talented riders we have seen in a longggg time.

Still not as exciting to watch though......

i bet if and when dungey has to, he can "hang it out" with the best of them.

roger decoster didn't "hang it out" when he didn't need to...didn't bang bars when it wasn't needed, but when he came to america and had to race with bar banging bob hannah roged d gave hannah a taste of his own medicine and "hung it out" and those were some great knock down drag out battles...i saw em with my own 2 eyes.

I personally love to watch RD5 ride, he is smooth. Althought I also like to watch guys like JG33, and JB17. Those two tend to hang it out, which is fun to watch. I think RD5 is kinda like K-DUB, he is fast but smooth.

And JS7, well I think he will be remembered as the one that never accomplished what he should have.

Now that's an answer worthy of a crusty old MX'er who has been there and done that. I think that is the best response from Myers, eeerrr....I mean "it's Myersdork" since......nevermind, that is his best response.

I would'nt take that bet, RD can go to the hairy edge as needed, he does not need to.

If I want drama, I'll turn on a soap opera. Bubbles needs to get back to what made him - racing.

And to hard core Moto enthusiasts, there's always plenty of exciting racing going on during the race. It might not be between the leader and the person in second, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some fun/exciting racing to watch. Just like in football, there's a lot more going on with the people who don't have the ball in their hands.

Bubbles and LB have brought a circus to the sport. And to me, racing that doesn't involve a circus/soap opera is more exciting to watch than a what you refer to as "excitement".

Bubbles, shut up and race. OR just shut up.
Yeah James, did you hear that, Tbonepoop said you should shut up...hehe...trust me Tbone bubbs will get back to what he does, winning. as for you, go get a hammer and smash you navicular and shutup

He's smooth and consistant and will never really ride outside of his comfort zone. I'm not saying that is bad, I'm just saying that it isn't very exciting to watch.

And if only James had learned how to ride like Dungey or Reed ... "smooth and consistant " (sic) .... he might have half of the titles that were predicted for him.

Or maybe he would have far less titles.................

Either way, a rider is who he is. I've never been pressed on how many titles a guy has. When I go to a race I want to say "Damn, that shit was crazy" or "wow that was amazing." That's just me though.
