Hi,
I am looking to get a pitbike to ride my kid around the yard. I have neighbors so I am curious about the quietest bike possible. I figure that a 50cc would be best, I would guess smaller engine less noise. I think a 50 size bike would be best anyways size wise.
Would like to start with a cheap gas bike and would probably move into an electric once I know he enjoys it.
Looking at crf/xr 50/70, ttr50, drz50/70. Also love the z50 and would be willing to spend a little more for the cool factor. Curious if anybody has any experience with these different bikes in stock form with sound. Not sure if any of the 50cc bikes are significantly quieter than others. Also curious if the 70cc bikes are much louder than the 50cc. Also if anybody has experience with double up on different bikes would be great to know. My kid is young so he is pretty small.
I think i will stay away from a 110 for now. It is a bit big for the area and I don't want things to get too rowdy.
I know you said you would like to start with the gas bikes first, but i think the electric KTM/Husky e50 models have been on the market long enough that you could score a good deal on a second hand unit.
Stock form pretty much all 50s are the same. Id doubt you'd piss off a neighbor. But its 2025 and someone would see your kid just having fun and they'd get mad. I wouldn't really worry about noise.
Once he can ride by himself i will get electric forsure. But I want to ride with him and also want to be a trail focused bike not one of the race electric bikes. I'm not sure if the small small electric bike could handle 2 ppl it looks pretty small. These electric bikes are also quite costly. Would love to be about the $1000 range until i confirm he likes this. Then we will get what he needs. He is 7mo right now and would look into riding him around the yard at about the 1 year mark maybe if he shows interest. I'm sure we will go stacyc route once he can ride himself.
Im pretty much biased to the z50 as that's what i learned on first. However the XR 50 and CRF 50 are all the same. Cant go wrong with it and can most defiantly find around 1000 bucks.
Yes the z50 are so cool and may be a bit better for 2 up with the wide seat.
Curious on the sound of xr70 vs 50. If i found a good 70 i maybe would jump on that also.
The ttr 50 seems louder than the xr 50 it seems. But im not sure, the electric start would be nice though.

Those are cool and ive seen those but was thinking something smaller at first.
best bet is starting him off on a stacyc, graduating to a KTM/GasGas/Husky "E2" model, and then go gas. You're wasting time putting him on a bigger bike than he can ride. I had my kid riding as soon as he could walk on a stacyc with training wheels, tried a PW50 when it was time for a dirtbike before trying anything else and it was too big. Went to the "E2" at 3 years old, he's on an e5 now with a lowering kit and just turned 5. This worked well for us.
Thanks good information for when he is on his own. I want to ride double up with him at first. Just to get him going and excited. Had a buddy riding his kid on the front with him on his 110 at 10mo. Would like to do the same with mine. I just think for what im wanting to do a xr50 type bike would work better than a 110.
At the same time will be getting him on a strider and onto a stacyc when he is ready. Then who knows maybe the ktm electric or PW.
Just want to have something to try out riding with him and honestly something for me to do circles around the yard and driveway but tell my wife i need it for the kid.
I agree with Marty1028 about the neighbors. It won't be noise that pisses someone off; it will be dust, or the idea that you are allowing your own kid to do something they dislike or feel is too dangerous. In any case, pretty much all kids' playbikes are about the same noise level: quiet.
Falcon is correct in assuming that neighbors will try to be “ the smart parent “ , and will likely try to “ save” your child. Better to keep it as private as possible, maybe a backyard with a fence would be better. This is incredibly sad for me to write, and I will tell you why…… Bought my child , at 3 years old a 4 wheeler. He was riding on his own, in my ( unfenced ) yard, when a female neighbor was jogging past, and she literally charged at me screaming about child safety , parents setting up their children for catastrophic, maybe deadly injuries. She terrorized my son so deeply, that despite me buying 2 motorcycles for him at an older age ( 10 , 13 ) he never was sincerely interested in motorbike’s again. Wishing you luck !
