Hey fellow Vitards. Reaching out for some help for a moto brother in Pittsburgh, PA. Jon works at a local motor and suspension shop and has been working hard the past few years to rent a house after spending the last few years living in his moto van. Jon reached that goal in March and found a rental home. Unfortunately a few days ago a large tree fell on the home and his van destroying both. He had liability only coverage on the van and no coverage for his belongings in the house including his road bike, mountain bike, inventory for a business he was starting and his personal possessions. Luckily his moto bike was not harmed.
Jon is the first to go out of his way for other riders locally and always lends a hand at the track, helps work with and give tips to younger riders and is all around a good dude. A GoFundMe has been started for Jon to help him get back on his feet. If you have it in your heart to lend Jon a hand like he does for others it would be appreciated.

Devils advocate here: wouldn’t the home owner he’s renting from be responsible for the fallen tree?
He found out after all of this that the landlord did not have any coverage.
I don't want to come across as insensitive or worse, and it's absolutely BS JLaw got funded and a bike, BUT....
Renters insurance, in CALIFORNIA of all places, is dirt cheap. So him being there only a couple months isn't really a reason. Also I would think even if the landlord didn't have coverage, there are some tenant laws that will protect him or indemnify him in some way?
I genuinely feel bad for the guy, but at the same time this one doesn't hit me like maybe it should? Maybe I'm just being overly cynical here...
Sounds to me like he has a pretty solid case for civil court.

Not if his landlord had a proper lease. Mine specifically states no coverage for the renters possessions and suggests that the renter purchase renter’s insurance.
I have no idea what the landlord-tenant laws are in PA, nor any idea what kind of an agreement was entered into by either party. Was the tree coming down an act of nature or was it neglect by the landlord in not maintaining the property. Industrial property and triple-net leases, sure. But residential properties, I think the judge will lean a little further in the tenant direction. Just my opinion... hope it works out well for him

Wasn't aware he had started one, this one is from his employer Podium Works which is how I became aware of it.
Well, I'm glad you posted it. I wasn't aware he'd had that happen to him. Dude's had a real hard time since his uncle died couple years back.
Tree falling is an act of God, can not sue for it. Its up to the renter to have renters Ins not for the owners Ins to cover his belonging. Sucks yes, but that's the law.
