Wow, he is lucky to have made it. We get quite a few people get hit by lightning while hiking in the rockies, and some of them don't make it.
Show of hand, how many of you have been told not to seek refuge under a tree during a storm? (because you are standing right next to a huge lightning rod)

I grew up on a farm and that was drilled into me since as long as I can remember.

Smile Thanks guys! We're both doing a lot better! It actually happened almost a month ago and I'm back to normal stuff again. Definitely one of the scariest things I've ever been through! Back to riding and racing again, so it's goodSmile

I didn't know you weren't supposed to stand under a tree when it's lightning. I thought it would be safer then standing in the openSmile I grew up in the desert, so I've never had to deal with that.

That's awesome Destry! I replied above before I scrolled down and seen your reply.

Glad to hear that you and your boy are ok!

Stay safe......and when you see lightning........just start riding the other way......away from the lightning!

Don't go into the light.........Don't go into the light!

Holy Cow!!!

What a story. I've parked under and against trees above Reno in the Eastern Sierras through many many sudden thunder storms. I guess not anymore.

Glad your ok. God and his Angels were watching.

Here's some good info. I didn't know that tree were positively charged to start with.
Destry you should buy a lottery ticket because all things considered you were lucky (yes, kind of odd saying that after you got knocked down) look at the part about lightning that can reach 54,000 degrees F!

Glad to hear your boy and you are OK.
I am curious however, what happened to your bike?
And please excuse my morbid mechanical curiosity.

did you buy some lottery tickets right after that happened?

my friend flew back east and was golfing with his dad and two brothers. They all tucked in under a tree when it started raining and the bolt hit the tree, went through the roots and right up their cleats or clubs they were holding and blew out the tops of there heads. Lots of organ damage (one side only) but all lived. ya don't hide under a tree.
