Crazy few days up in Canadaland. We got hit with a massive freezing rain storm on Saturday. Lost power around noon and it hasn’t been on since. Thousands and thousands of trees down, power lines down. Over 700,000 people without power. Internet down as well. We’ve been under a state of emergency since Sunday or Monday

I watched several trees come down on my property, 2 hit my deck but didn’t damage anything.

Since Saturday, it’s been nothing but running around. Luckily our shop has a handful of generators and I have one for my house that will at least run the lights, furnace and water pump. The others I’ve had to deliver to various family members houses. Sometimes dragging downed trees out of the way to get to them.

The worst was my grandmothers house. Built in the 1800s with the worst basement I’ve ever seen. 4 sumps run around the clock to keep the water out, with the power loss, there was 2 feet of water down there. Had to take my jeans off and wade through it between her floating belongings to get the extension cord over to the pumps.

As of now, we’re being told we may not have power back until Friday. If I can get a decent connection I’ll upload some photos later

We’re all okay, I’ve moved my grandmother into my house for the time being. That old house she lives in doesn’t do well without a furnace. Everyone else I’ve gotten set up to where I don’t have to spend all day driving from place to place.

Thankfully a few gas stations have gotten power back. For a couple days people were driving over an hour away just to fill Jerry cans for their generators. We have a tank at the shop, but with the power out I had to rig up a siphon to get anything out of it.

At least 30 trees down on my 3 acre lot. When it was going on you could stand on the back deck and hear branches and trees snapping all around. Surreal stuff

Can’t upload photos. But I filmed this in my back yard.

🤣

I'm sorry...but was the delay in "Holy Fuck" for comedic effect?

Looks like you have things under control, Don't wear yourself out cutting up 30 trees worth of fire wood. 🙂

Honestly I think it was more that I was shocked to get it on video than anything else. When the tree snapped, I felt it on my chest, my wife was inside and said that it shook the house

One group of people that I admire in my area and always have is linemen. They have always been super responsive here when there is an outage. Friendly too.

Its amazing how much a tree will sag under the weight of ice until it doesn't.

Round 2 has started. More freezing rain coming down now. Now everyone working to get power back on is going to have to deal with treacherous roads and possibly more issues.

Hang in there Bro. No heat I had that for 8 weeks Jan, Feb in the Midwest in the trk. Niacin tablets heat your body up good, sleep with a Winter hat on in newer style long johns .  They dropped a tree in front of me last week .  Speaking of trees the big Indian statue with 1 arm raised just came down from a rt 66 muffler shop . There’s a few more in the country tho. IMG 2793 1. A big story in the news paper of the strange history. He slapped Paul Bunyon with a red samon in the face . To stop Paul from cutting the Chippewa Forrest down .

Day 7 of no power. Generator has gone from 60 hrs to 220. Seems we’ll be the last ones to get it back. Drawbacks of living out of town I guess. At least I’m not running around with a Jerry can filling up 5 generators at 5 houses anymore.

Hang in there, Nothing worse than no power in the freezing cold or the extreme heat. We get the opposite down here after our hurricanes no AC.

Oh man. When this is all over I bet you will give that generator a pat on the back.

Is the generator able to run everything?

Power came back yesterday afternoon.

it’s a Yamaha 5500, it could run anything in the house as long as you turned off enough other stuff. Once we got the hang of it, we were able to do things fairly normally.
