Hey DC, why wasn´t Desalle interviewed after moto 1 as is the norm, and why was the sound cut during his interview after moto 2?

DC,

I greatly admire the leadership that you have brought to our sport. You are correct push the outdoor series toward more of a supercross style of show. That is what the sponsors and the fans want.

There is a very small core of veterans (myself included) that believe that we no longer have motocross and supercross. It's all supercross.

I don't agree that today's equipment would run yesterdays track like a freeway. The old track was a track that was, for the most part, left ungroomed.

Keep up the good work.

If you don't like the Unadilla track you are not core. Actually you might even be gay.

SCience, were you out there today? That track was plenty rough for the equipment today's riders have, and the old Unadilla would be a freeway on these modern bikes. The track I saw out there was different than yesteryear but it has to be, because the bike are so much different than yesteryear. Imagine a Supercross track from 1972 and now... They don't compare but the bikes don't compare. I know we all remember the way things were back in the day, and it was awesome, but it wouldn't work now on these machines.

Yes I was there and you put on a great show. The facility looked as good as I have ever seen it! In my opinion, I thought the track wasn't rough enough. It started out like a freeway and it seemed to get cleaned up a little too much when it got rougher. I am not by any means saying it was easy or the like. The newer sections seem to be there to make up for the lap times being down due to high speed four strokes. I know we can't compare eras, but I have to think that todays athletes on the modern day 450's would go great on a tougher track. Red Bud has come around the past 5-6 years after a little dip and is fantastic now. Rough and safe. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, those are good points, and thanks for the nice words. And I have no idea what happened with Clement's interview as I was dealing with another problem -- we did not have a plan to get the riders TO the podium from the finish so it was a bit of a cluster. But we sorted it out. I will ask Erin what happened, though I have a feeling the delay in reaching the podium had them running late for the 250 start....

Thanks! it was just weird how they interviwed 1st and 3rd, but not 2nd, when 1st and 2nd have been the norm all year.

Pierce, I also get a little disturbed when we go and the" out with the old in with

the new " appears. But I think the changes reflect and showcase the

talent of today's riders. I was there spectating those years you raced

and riders would actually crash on the uphill due to the roughness.

To Mx Sports the entire day was spectacular. Racing at a great level.

1 Note I try to look at the glass as half full but I couldnt take all the

people crossing the track during the wading laps of timed practice,

carts included. I stopped counting at 26... 1 during the national

Thanks again for a great day

I've been going to Unadilla since 1972.

Raced it as a Pro in the late 70s with a 6th in the 500s in 1979.

The old track was very different than the one I see today. When we went out to practice, the track hadn't been touched for a year. It was all grown up with hay and had a lot of hidden holes. Line choice was different every lap. There was little consistency lap to lap.

We also ran 40 plus 2 in the 70s. The last 15 minutes would separate the flashy glamour queens from the hard nosed workers.

Back then we fought with bear knuckles. Today they fight with gloves.

Today's riders are excellent athletes and highly trained, dressed, prepped and equipped. It should be a great contest today.
No shit it was tough back then, especially when you had to steal a pair of "bear knuckles" from a bear to fight with.

The last time I raced there was a long time ago (other than doing the GNCC). I think it was 1991 and they still were leaving the track year to year and letting the grass cover everything. It was a lot of fun, the track changed a lot as the grass got chewed up, and the track seemed to stay deep all day. Maybe leaving the grass there helps the texture of the dirt. The dirt on todays track doesn't really resemble the dirt of old.
My idea would be to prep the track for next year now. Then seed it and let it be until next year. Maybe it won't ever be the same, but it would be neat to see how the track responds. And, today's riders should get to experience going out on a track covered in knee high grass at least once in their career. It's a memory I'll never forget.

Few things make me laugh out loud, and to have 2 posts in the same thread that did must be acknowledged . jaeckle- simple and to the point--- and very funny (unless the reader is actually gay and then probably not so much)

And neverwasfastenuf with "No shit it was tough back then, especially when you had to steal a pair of "bear knuckles" from a bear to fight with" made me actually blow my ice tea thru my nose. Good stuff boyz
