Who's running a bills pipe and why isn't anyone is supercross or outdoors running one? I remember these from back in the day and I don't see them as much as I expected today.
Bill's Pipes brand has always been a favorite on a two stroke. He puts the power right where you need it as an amateur racer.
I ran them back in the late 1990's on my CR250R.
I run one on my current YZ250 and it's my favorite among several brands of pipes I have hanging up on the wall.
An old friend has one on a YZ125. It crushes the standard PC pipe for that bike. Bill's YZ125 pipe makes perhaps a touch more torque in the mid than the FMF pipe.
Another friend races 30+ and runs Bills exhaust on his YZ250F... It seems to be a great setup and ran clean on the stock ECU when I rode his bike.
I don't think I'd put an exhaust on a four stroke with how little they offer in terms of performance vs cost.
A Vortex ECU tuned by someone who knows what they're doing is the best money spent on a four-banger.
Another buddy recently tried to reach out to Bill's for a 1993 CR250R project and said he can't get ahold of them at all...
Hey, what have you been able to compare... how does the Bill's improve on other pipes on the YZ250? For example compared to PC Works? (I've used several PC Works and I love them) What silencer do you have combined with the Bill's on your YZ250? Thanks!
Cheers!
I collect Bill”s pipes….My 92 RM250 pipe is pretty rare, the only one I have ever seen dating g back that far…

I love that bike! One of these days I'd like to have another 1989 - 1992 to build up as a replica of my old 1989 RM250.
The Bill's pipe makes a lot of torque from a lower RPM and it makes more torque through the mid range.
The PC works pipe is more mid/top oriented and it doesn't make the torque like the Bill's.
I have a couple of DEP pipes and some FMF pipes too.
The FMF is the smoothest with a very broad power. It works really well on a slick track or you like a more "linear" delivery.
The Bill's pipe starts at a lower RPM and makes substantially more torque. You give up just a touch of over-rev vs some other pipes like the PC, but it really plays to the strength of the YZ engine and gearing.
I run a re-cut cylinder head with stock porting and OEM base gaskets. I also run a VF3 reed and good fuel.
For the tracks I ride, the gearing I run and my skill level the Bill's is my favorite pipe.
I pretty much run the PC 304 (not the shorty) silencer all the time.
I have the DEP and some others up there, but I just keep repacking the same old beat up PC silencer.
89-99 Rm”s some of best looking bikes ever made..I have 2 92”s, should have done one as an 89…
Many thanks for your opinion, man. I'm looking to gain some torque in the low and mid range on my YZ250 (stock engine and carburettor, only gytr flywheel)
The combination of the pipe bill's with the OEM silencer could be the key.
Also Look into head mods and maybe also a V-Force reed system.
Both of those mods add some torque and response from low end through mid range.
The Bill's pipe does more for the power curve than the reeds.
If I bought a new YZ250 tomorrow, I wouldn't even ride it before cutting the head down for 0.045in squish clearance and 20cc to 20.5cc chamber volume. The stock heads have ridiculously large clearance around 0.072in to 0.078in.
Jetting becomes so much cleaner with a properly modified head and quality fuel.
Thanks, I take note for a future head modification✌️
A new guy took it over a couple of years back and is working to rebuild the name/brand. Internet search should find you an article that I read, I didn't recognize his name. The shop is still in Corona I believe.
