Ford F350,7.3 2002. I’m the original owner and do all my own oil changes. 3 gallons of Rotella T6 and 1 gallon of Lucas petroleum. I installed a bypass filter that filters down to like 3-4 microns. When it was my daily driver I’d change every 10k. Now that it’s retired, like me. I change once a year, 1200 average. Average cost for change is about $200 bucks. Last oil change was 2/26/25 at 506,426!

                                      🤣

They don't make em like they used to....   that's impressive.

She’s my baby, gonna get buried in her. Has original motor, trans and everything else. I’ve been lucky, but like I said. I’ve done 99.9 percent of maintenance myself. I want to know what’s going in my motor.

If you really want to set a service interval have your oil analyzed. Blackstone is the big name but there are other labs out there. You will get a good breakdown of wear, condition of additive packages and shear etc. They will recommend an OSI based on their results.

FWIW, my F250 7.3 gas truck gets 5-6000 mile oil changes with Penzoil Platinum full syn and Motorcraft filters. Costs about $50 and it gets done at my convenience.

Just came here to say I love the Chevy Colorado. Almost bought one. Hands down the Colorado ZR2 is best mid-size truck. Same price as that POS jeep truck renegade..

Me and the wife almost bought matching Colorado Trail Boss.

I ended up buying a Silverado 1500 Trail Boss just because…. And put a 6” lift on it.

And I still want to also add a Colorado and a Bronco to our collection!!!!

Just think of all the trans operas you are denying the native peoples of 3rd world countries by spending the money you earned on the things you want instead of voting for higher taxes.

I changed oil b4 I went to w Tx. Changed it then I got there . Etc.  changed oil on aprox 4k pieces of hvy equipment Boston to n of nyc .  We had a 3 man team a few 55 gal drums fuel & oil filters . Had to hit a yard & restock.  Changing oil is nothing . I wouldn’t trust a shop though. I hear too many bad stories.

I drive a Ford F-150.

Whether I change the oil every 5 miles or 12,000 miles, the risk is the same 😁

The best thing I did to my F150 is:fe7c65fa-8073-4b4b-aa47-4c4dbfc9f6d6

Buy a shitty van

Does the manufacturers recommended oil change interval figure into any emissions regulations on cars? Thus there is motivation for the car companies to say you can go 10,000 miles between oil changes rather then you really should do it every 5000-7000 miles?

Extending intervals lowers “cost of ownership” many magazines and online reviews post cost numbers on annual cost of ownership.

Every vehicle/engine is different, the only way to know what it likes is to send oil out for testing to a company like Blackstone. Then you can keep extending intervals until you find when wear metal number jump up and the oil is tired.

It’s still cheap if you DIY, many parts stores have monthly deals and oil is always cheap at wallyworld. I’m a 5k miles or less guy, but everyone has their own method.

Adding to that last post.

This was the dream truck in high school.    I'd still love to have one that's been pampered.

2019 Ram Laramie with the 5.7 and I go 6k on full synthetic. I work from home so the only driving it sees is low stress trips to the track and back/short hops around town, no towing, and I don't think it's even seen 4k rpm's on the tach in a couple years, and the oil still looks brand new when I change it.

Shit my 450 uses more oil in a year than my Ram does. hahaha

Over the years engine tolerance must have greatly improved. How often do you ever see blue smoke anymore?

As for oil changes it’s quite the job doing the oil change on my Newmar class A front engine diesel where putting the 4 gallons of back oil in is the biggest challenge.

While having a warranty coolant concern addressed at Freightliner I asked them what a oil change cost was and was told its $400 just to change the oil !!! Oil and filter cost me $120 and I did it my self.

I’m a 5000 mile change guy, no matter what the manufacturers recommendation.

Except for my Mustang. It gets an oil change after every time I take it out and beat on it. 1047 RWHP and half of that is from N2O.
