KTM starter wire break @ connector

Was out riding and then started getting intermittent starter button. Got back home and took off the front plate. Found this wire barely hanging on and then it broke with a few turns of the bars.
I’m not sure the best way to repair it. I got a molex tool to try and push out the female plug in the white connector but it’s solid in there.
Do I need to just try it some more or am I looking at a different approach?

Turns out, you just need a hammer, proper sized punch, and a bead buddy to use as a vise. Tapped it right out.

Now to fix every other wire for safe measure. IMG 6237 1

I cut the connector out completely then soldier and heat shrink the wires together. Easy to do if you follow the wires, you'll see an extra wire just makes a loop.

That sounds like a more solid solution for sure.

Same thing happened to my 18 350 exc. I think it’s fairly common.

Just had a minor crash on my Husqvarna at Pala Sunday. Got up and the bike wouldn't start. Chased it back to this same connector; it had corroded pins and that crash was just a big enough force to break one! So it' now cut off and hard wired.

Dang!

Got a photo of how you hard wired it? I am thinking of doing that and using those connectors that you can heat and solder together all in one.

There's really not a lot to see. It's only two wires that need to be joined; they use the big connector to handle multiple bikes, but for the motocross bikes there's only the two wires going to the start button. I just soldered them together and heat shrinked over them. The old connector was plenty corroded, though!

Hey mate, this has happened on my husky fc250 and the starter button wire has come out at the connecting pin. How did you get the metal thing inside the plug out because mines stuck.

They make a special tool for it, but you can get in there with a small screwdriver and bend the pin so it comes out. I just cut the wires as they were plenty long.

Ya I just cut my ditching the stock connector and crimped and heat shrink’d my own connectors.
Just like the photo Luxon posted earlier. Works great.
Now to find a way to keep my FI light in the holder. I think Keefer said he’s used silicone to hold it in there. Super weird design

I just put a dab of super glue to hold my fi light in.

KTM Group has a reputation for quality, it's strange they don't use water proof connectors...
