You know I've heard from other locals that their crop this year was not too good. I'm not sure why mine has been this good. Last year I was disappointed because the maters were small and had some kind of bug problem. I went the "organic" route. This year I used the bad stuff and I have more maters than I can give away. Not all of them look like the ones in the pic (I was showing off) but the majority have been more like the one on the upper left. I wish I knew the secret. If I get a chance I'll post a pic of the garden tomorrow.

They don't make tomatoes like they used too.

Nice maters. Ours arent as far along in color or size but close. One plant is over 5' tall.

The wife and i found a gopher tunnel under our carrots this evening. Little turd is eating the bottom half of our carrots away. Trap set, see what we have in the morning.

X2! My garden actually burnt off from the Sun. It has been so hot I could not keep it watered enough. My maters are all that survived, and they are not nearly as nice as those!

I'm waiting for my neighbors tomatos to ripen right now.
Loaned them my powerwasher to do their siding and now I am getting some fresh veggies, not a bad deal.

Slice those babies while they are room temp, some thick cut white bread and mayo, little salt and pepper....yum!

My 4 yr old granddaughter is living with us right now and she helps me in the garden...not too many ripe maters are making it to the house. She picks and eats em right off the plant. Same with the sweet banana peppers. Nothin' beats garden fresh.Tongue

my favorite 'maters we have that are going off right now are the little cherry sized ones, but they are yellow, dont know the exact name of them, but they are so damn good i eat em till i feel sick.

Plowboy- what are "sweet banana peppers"? never heard of them, but they sure sound good.

Heck scottie...I don't know. The are about the size of a medium banana and are a pale green and have a slightly more delicate flavor than a regular bell pepper.

My maters are doing well, but it's my pumkins that are taking over the entire garden.

scottie they are good. In salsa, salad, fried, stuffed. Never heard about a soil additive for that purpose but wouldn't doubt it a bit. I've found with toms especially the small yellow pear and cherries that late June early July (around here anyway) that they all become more acidic and the skins get tougher. The sun is really hard on them.

The block wall is 5'. There are 9 plants there. I can hardly walk between the rows.

The mrs has some tomatoe plants, out back but they havent done that well this year , its getting very dry here, she waters them but they dont look anything like yours hers are stringy and weak looking, she does it more for a hobby than trying to actually feed us out of it.

Well i have learned a lot over the past few days, like it is possible to OD on 'maters.

I am so over these fuckin things! i am a human tomato sauce maker, and its not a good thing. Feel so ill, and have pure 'mato sauce pouring out my bunghole.

If i were a SuperHero they would call me "'MatoSauce Man!"

For sweeter tomatos you can use this. You can also add molasses to the plants.

I wish I could bring you some. I have picked about 100 lbs in the last week. My friends are not answering their phones. I over did it. I gave about 50 lbs to the local VFW the other day. They have all kinds of BBQ's and specials every week. I'm glad they could use them. I'm guessing there's another 20 lbs out there right now. I have some friends that run a food bank. Hopefully it will help them out a little.

Anybody ever try these for maters? I was going to but they seem kind of pricey and I didn't know if it was worth it.

I tried a couple last year. I think the soil gets to hot in the bag. II couln't keep them alive. Go to the grow store and get soem grow bags. I am doing real well this year with Coco Coir and grow bags.

I see that's used in Hydroponics. Are you using it in place of the dirt in the hanging container?
