The obvious answer is Dungey(unless I'm forgetting someone from the 70s). But I'm gonna have to go with McGrath. Dungey is hardly a shock, MC nearly caused the earth to tilt on it's axis.

Nevermind, I didn't catch the full season the first time through.

had anyone as a rookie earn two championships in the 1 year? big boy class. even when the 125 class was a big boy class.or equal to 250 n open class back in the day.

If Dungey wins 450MX.
The best rookie ever title must go to Dungey. To win 450SX and 450MX first try is a massive accomplishment.

Think about it. a pair of 450 titles in your first try. Name another rider that has done that

A few come to mind. Hannah won the 125 title as a rookie if I remember correctly, beating the legendary Marty Smith. RC won the 125 title as a rookie. I believe JS won the 125 title his rookie year also. MC winning the SX title in his first year in the series. And of course RD5 winning the SX title his first year in the series.

Dungey won his first pro lites sx race, but Townley won that championship, J-Law won the next SX lites title he contested, and he never beat RV outdoors in lites for a title, and then won them both on his third...

Tho he is still the most impressive rookie, stats will show title indoors and out in his rookie year... Bad

MC for sure...he raced the best every round...left them behind, changed the sport...

RD picked up the pieces, never crashed, great timing...not on MC level...nor RC level in outdoors...never lost a title...never...have fun chasing that
