Thanks for all of the suggestions, and yes, I do my best to listen to the fans, the industry, the riders, and even the off-the-wall stuff.... Not sure where all of these fit in, but I appreciate someone spent so much time thinking about the same things I spent a lot of time thinking about, though often with different conclusions.

Sorry, my dad once told me, Always give 'em enough rope....

Or maybe that was Joe Strummer.

I do listen to everyone, at least when they keep it within readable length. This one jumped out of my universe.

I would love to see the elimination of inside track banners.(ok, and those ugly yell'er stakes) Other than that, DC has made some great strides for the sport of MX and TV exposure. Not sure what "Fans demand meaningful change and progress" really means in this thread. Maybe it's the title of the thread. Hell, I didn't even know motocross had a negative imagine because of Brian Deegan and Co. The 250f class has given race fans one of the most exciting indoor and outdoor champoinship series in years. Some of this talent will be moving up to the 450 class next year which will only improve both classes. I do miss the qualifying but bringing womens MX series to the program was worth the change. One appealing factor of MX is that it remains one of the last professional sports that is not only family oriented but also affordable. There's nothing wrong with change but I haven't heard the demand for separating the 250 and 450 class series. A 125 semi pro class race could be an interesting addition to some events. Overall, I don't have any meaninglful ideas other than getting rid of those m#@therfuc*ing track blocking banners.

We can solve this problem with the answer to one question, and it's goes kinda like this: How do we get people to like motorcycles more?

Okay, maybe I could have constructed a better sentence, but in the end, our biggest growth inhibitor is not the series, or how we deliver the product. It's the fact that most people, plain and simple, don't like motorcycles, or motorcyclists, for that matter.

Think about it. Nearly everyone drives a car, so NASCAR has minimal negative impact. As for stick & ball sports: when was the last time an errant basketball cut someone off in traffic? How many times have the neighbors called the cops on a "noisy" football?

And injuries? Yes, every sport has its fair share, but no amount of politicing or grandstanding is going to change the mind of the average American family about riding and racing motorcycles It's a dangerous sport. Very dangerous. No sense denying the truth there.

I admire anyone who is willing to put the time & effort (& money) into improving our sport. But let's face the facts: it's a down economy, and people are withholding their disposable income by NOT buying motorcycles, attending races, etc. To increase our market share of sport enthusiasts, we must decrease the market share of a competing sport or hobby. And the ROI in that endeavor probably won't justify any substantial shift in viewers, participants, or revenue.

You are very welcome DC. Wouldn't mind hearing, and actually would very much appreciate hearing your thoughts that result in your different conclusions. For the most part, the reason I posted my thread was in hoping that I would your thoughts along with a few other prominent leaders of our sport. Unfortunately, I heard from too many of the detractors that seem to be living in here. For the record, I have never stated anything but gratitude and support for you and MXSports. Thank you very much for your time and the good job that you do. Hope to here from you again soon, at your convenience. Did you happen to see my sentence that says, "My group is in negotiations on a closed down and foreclosed golf course and Country Club with the intent of converting it into what I believe would be the first Golf and Motocross Country Club. My direct email is BringBackOCMoto@aol.com Poor wreckit, so much to think about...lol

Your Dad's or Joe Strummer's advice given to you, "always give 'em enough rope." Was something I also learned very early in my career as a Commercial General Contractor. Very good advice that I practice in my everyday life, whether its with subcontractors or my 4 daughters ... giving them just enough rope to "hang" themselves... leaves them with no other option than to do it somebody elses way, or at the very least trying it a different way. Perhaps, it would have been better if I had seperated my thread into 4 different threads...sorry, maybe next time.

American MX and SX must align with each other in order to further the growth and make our moto-sports the best they can be. For instance, Major League Sports have 2 Divisions (i.e.; Football, Basketball and Baseball) that are two distinctive divisions with a Champion for each, then each division plays each other to create a world series champion. Both the SX and MX series should remain independent of each other but some options are;

1) Create a 3rd Race Series by shortening each individual series by as many as 6 races each, you now have a newly created 12 race Series (a combination of 6 Motocross races and 6 SX races that alternate each weekend) at the end of the year... the SuperMotocross Series or the MotocrossSuper Series. Thus, creating three distinctive series with the possibility of three different champions. Fans would be watching "moto" all year long. I believe this would be a marketable format that would result in more TV exposure, similar to golf in that they have the PGA Tour and the so called "silly season" season that creates alot of TV for golf.

2) or perhaps, alternating weekends for each of the motocross and supercross series. This would no doubt create some "conflicts of interest" but would keep all fans, and I think most racers would want to race both series but you would not have a 3rd Series that is an exciting combination of the two series. I personally prefer Option 1 above.

3) In any case, I also believe that ALL races should be "Incentive Driven" with racers earning their money by WINNING, not paid very well before they ever compete each year. Do it like Golf... forget the team concept. Thus, creating larger purses for each race instead of highly paid Team individuals. The fans then are excited to watch the individual racer vying for the $500,000 purse race and showing the breakdown of the purse indicating what 2nd, 3rd...etc., what each position will earn. MONEY creates EXCITEMENT! Huge salaries do not. Each individual racer can have "endorsements (sponsors)" but each Series (e.g.; The PGA or the FedEx Golf Series, or its equivalent being the Toyota Supercross Series, and the newly created Muscle Milk National Motocross Series) and each individual Race will have its own sub-sponsor (e.g.: FMF sponsors the first race of the Muscle Milk Series, or AT&T sponsored first race of the Toyota Supercross Series similar to the way golf does it. Also, individual stars such as Jeremy McGrath or Roger DeCoster might sponsor another any of the other races in the Toyota Series. Again, similar to the way Golf has done it with the Bob Hope Golf Tournament or the former Bing Crosby or Dinah Shore Tournaments. Example: JS has an endorsement from L&M and others, just as Tiger is endorsed by Nike and others, and this one race in this example is sponsored by AT&T. Like golf, sponsors are allowed to add 2 or 3 "exempt" amateurs or privateers to their sponsored event.

4) I also feel that it would be beneficial to our sport if the Premiere division (450's/superstars) and second division (250's/up and comers) were not at the same events. The 250's could follow up the weekend after the 450's. Golf has the PGA tour for the superstars and The Nationwide Tour is for the up and comers... totally seperate tournaments. This would create more TV events, thus more exposure and more fans. This also DOUBLES the amount of qualifiers and racers for each division (450's and 250's) at each race, thus more fans, more revenue, more income available to all racers, all OEM's,etc., etc. Now that more SX Stadiums as well as more Race Tracks for Nationals are vying for events at their venues, (i.e.; The Coliseum has taken Anaheim2) lets make Anaheim2 and the Coliseum the experiment. Anaheim 2 is for the up and coming 250's and the Coliseum is for the Superstar 450's. And add the WMA to Anaheim2 with the 250's.

5) If #4 above was in place, I feel it would increase the overall attendance of each event. Take Anaheim1 for instance, say Anaheim1 has a sell-out of 45,000 fans watching nothing but the 450's Premiere Class, then the following weekend would be the 250's 2nd tier class, I for one would attend both. I would guess that roughly half or better of the 45,000 would also attend the 250's race. Now the total combined attendance for Anaheim1 is approx. 65,000 fans.

6) If we want a more Professional image similar to other MAJOR League Sports such as the PGA, I feel we must distance our sports, MX and SX from the FMX "badass lifestyle and environment" that seems to mostly encourage and applaud unprofessionalism and destructive antics.

MXinOC,

I wasn't making fun of you, it's the general "you suck" emails and thread I was referring to. By all means send me your ideas, and yes, break them up here and there some.

I actually read all of Rupter X Pellett's Moto Manifesto and found some really interesting ideas among the general revolutionary ideals.

We're trying to be consistent and responsive to the fans as well as the riders and the teams, but sometimes its like juggling chainsaws and Molotovs....

I'm not sure what gave you the idea that I thought you were making fun of me, I never did think that, so no problem, thanks for that though. I also read Ruperts manifesto... thought it was very well done with some good ideas. I was kind of bummed when I researched the Institute hoping to find a significant sized group, but it appears that Rupert is the Institute. And SWPK's, plllllllease, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH RUPERT and posted that I applaud him for his time, efforts, on a job well done. Keep smilin' and doing the good work DC. Again, my thread never complained about any one person, any organization, any company. They are my thoughts and ideas as possible solutions, period! I am just puttin' my 2 cents in with nothing but the best interest in mind for REAL MX / SX as a whole. Thank you.

SuperX as they now call it in Aus is getting TV time it runs different formats every week, i think the promotor does this so he can test what works best, he also ran the iron man triathalon series witch became a huge TV success here in Aus and created world champs, he has obviously impressed TV with SuperX as now our outdoor nats are on TV again this year for the first time in 15 years. Congratts MXinOC for creating thoughts on development, but please shorten the post.

Listen, you have ideas, great.

I just find the title of the thread misleading.

"Fans Demand.........".

That's the kind of stuff Y/S jumps on.

For the record, one fan thinks MXSPORTS is doing just fine.

.......newsflash.......most women and a few guys will always complain....

"Is it over yet? Can we go now? I'm hot.."

It's the National's for cripes sake, some things are never gonna change.

To those that want to help the outdoors, attend the races. Not only attend,
call your old buddies, get 4 or 5 friends that havn't been in awhile.
Help to turn a 20,000 people event into a 60,000 people show.

Now that's a change I'd agree with.

Although, this horse has been been beaten to death, here goes. Thank you for specifically stating what you disliked... in hindsight, I guess the Title could have been softer and gentler, but, just reading thread after thread on the subjects of change, the sport is dying in this economy, Ruperts lengthy and obviously considerable amount of awesome time and effort spent on creating his suggestions on what CHANGES MUST take place to save Motocross, and the Monday morning quarterbacking that goes on daily, if not just in this forum alone, in my opinion, the title fits. I do believe that a high percentage of the fans DO NOT LIKE THE CHANGE TO SATURDAY's or an opinion like yours on how to make outdoors better. I still am rather amazed at the sensitivity over "DEMAND", but live and learn maybe.

Right before posting my thread, I had just read the article about NASCAR that GuyB had recommended in one of his posts, and I just copied that statement from that article without a second thought to using it as the Title.

Ironically, "one" might mistake your statement to mean "For the record, (there is only) ONE fan that thinks MX Sports is doing just fine."

Enjoy.
