Brand new bike. I noticed visually that the rear wheel seemed offset to the drive side of the bike.. When I measured from the rim to the inside of the sing arm there is 1/4 difference.
The front is within 2mm.
I don't beleive this is an issue with dirt bikes yet it still bothers me. Why dosen't yamaha have a wheel dish specification.
Is it worth correcting?
1) They do have a dish specification.
2) The swingarm is not symmetrical like the forks are. The rear has the drivetrain, unlike the front. You'll notice the sprocket side of the hub sticks out further than the disc side. This likely explains the left side of your swingarm being 1/4" further away from the rim.
Well it is definitely not in the service manual. I will email yamaha and see if they can provide one. There must be one otherwise how could you buy a complete wheelset and have it line up.
Yes after some more measuring I agree with you, the swing arm is not symmetrical at all. The center of the tire lines up with the casting mark, I belived this to be center but it is not. I am not sure what would be a good reference point. Probably the machined surfaces where the swing arm pivot is. Might be hard to use though, would be easier just to dish the wheels to spec.
It would be easy enough to adjust the dish of the wheel over to center. But I am not certain that would be correct. Right now the spokes are the same length and everything looks even except for the offset in the swing arm. Can't get a clear answer
Before you panic why don’t you go to the dealer and look at a couple of other new bikes. If they are the same then don’t worry about it.
Read up on torque vectoring and how the chassis and suspension components can warp and change geometry under load.

Have you made a tape line on the floor to check the alignment of the wheels centering the frame using the distance between the foot pegs? I have used welding rods taped to the frame after removing tank, seat and rear fender. The rod should align off the center of the tire…. Center of the next part etc. There may be things that are unsymetrical from side to side. As discussed before. Room for the sprocket and chain in the swing arm. Room for the exhaust pipe under the side panel. My mind from straightening pedal bicycles uses this thought. 1990’s Suzuki DR350 used the same frame/swingarm for cush hub and no cush hub. The street model with the cush hub and the resulting front and rear wheel offset steered oddly when riding down ruts or freeway grooves.
