Anyone here rode Moto with the Tusk tires?

For novices I think it's an okay tire. Good price, holds up pretty well for the price.
Lean angle grip is absolute garbage. I've honestly never tried a tire that was THIS bad at a lean angle.

Would you rate them as good as the pirellis? I'm a pirelli guy because I can get them for about the price of the rinaldis actually.

very similar. They are both Italian companies. Look very similar in design. I would not be surprised if they are made in the same country. If you can get pirellis for the same price then stick with pirellis but i've not really seen most people have that option!

Here is a good real world comparison by a Pro level rider.

If a guy wants to save 20 bucks a tire still get a good tire.  Metzeler 360’s are 100 ish, 20 less than Dunlop. Metzeler 360’s do good in tests, Keefer even tested them.  We ran them on our CZ’s and Maico’s back before electricity was invented.  They were good tires then, still are.  I have a set on my 23 Honda

I used to run Metzlers on everything in the early 80's

Not to discredit Josh but.... I was at Idaho City that year and have ridden there a ton over the years.  Conditions were absolutely perfect and traction was at a premium when he did this test.  ANY tire woulda worked good in those conditions.

My experience with the Tusk tires has been they are decent when the knobs are sharp and your riding on good dirt.  If you are riding off road with them and it's wet at all they feel like ice skates in the rocks and roots.

Your mileage may vary....

Edit to add: Josh is also heavily sponsored by Rocky Mountain and his brother works there. Just adding context.

Not exactly an unbiased review from a RMATVMC sponsored rider.

The course goes in opposite directions each day, lap times aren't really comparable.

Also, I ran the same tires on Day 2 as I did Day 1 and the traction was the same.  Like I said, it was hero dirt...any tire worked good that weekend even wore out ones.

I'm not saying the Tusks are shit, they aren't, but they definitely aren't comparable to a premium tire in my opinion.  If you listen when Josh is talking about braking on each tire, he gives the nod to the Dunlop.  That is because they have better grip than the Tusk due to higher quality rubber.

FWIW....I've bashed Dunlop plenty on here for their knobs falling off so I'm far from a fan boy of Dunlops 🤣

Pirelli mid-softs are like magic dirt Velcro.

Pirellis are the best , wear like iron and grip like white on rice

The 35 rears are great for the average Joe. I've never tried the Tusk fronts, I'll never give up my x31 front.

i will second the statement that the Tusk front tires are terrible.  anything other than primo tacky brown dirt and they turn to ice. i like the traction of the 35 rear until they hit about 50% wear. they do hold up pretty well and last a while, but you are definitely sacrificing traction.

the Recon Hybrid rear is where it's at for Moab though, that tire is awesome on the slick-rock.

ps... been wanting to do an Idaho City trip for years on dirt but haven't made it happen yet.  have been up there a couple times on snowbikes and its unreal. love that little old mining town. cool spot.

---If you want a rear end that steps out and gives you more spin than traction i recommend the tusk!

---If you want a front end that pushes i recommend the tusk.

Stick to Dunlops.

at 67 I learned from my son, "There should only be 2 things touching the ground when riding". Good tires and proper air pressure is a must for safety.

Not a fan at all, but they're better than other budget tires. For a spare bike I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Fully agree. They are certainly useable for a light application. Heavy moto use is not going to last long on them. One of those areas where name brand is probably more worth it (e.g. Dunlop MX 33/34)

As long as safety and fun...

I put on on rear of 701, it works fine. Not as good as stock continental, but, cheap and still satisfact.

A lot of us run the rear on our D/S. For the money it’s worth the mild shortcomings. Most don’t like the front. I didn’t mind it until I finally bought a an EN91 and someone gave me a Motoz. I’ll still run the rear tusk but never a front again. Big difference between my 26HP and whatever that 701 puts out though.
