Looking at going this route and would love to hear your guys experience and insight on this kit.
- Fat old vet guy
I'd go Millennium Tech, PM me if you want to hear about my experience with EGR and his Mo Betta setup.
Does Eric still do his own work? I thought he got absorbed by mill tech?
Eric did a kx250 cylinder for me (stock bore) and that bike ran great. But Ive heard second hand some others that haven’t had as much luck
I think those kits ruin what we love about the YZ250 motor. I think they don't rev out as well and the power gets switched to the middle or bottom.
The EG YZ295 was a pleasure when switched back to stock YZ250 configuration.
I believe Millennium Tech initially brought Eric Gorr on to fill the role that Tom Morgan has been in for years now. Eric and Millennium quickly parted ways.

News to me that Morgan and millennium were partners. Looking at Eric’s website it’s way scaled down from what it used to be. I would personally look elsewhere for a BB kit even though my EG motor has ran fine for years. (1 full rebuild multiple pistons).
The next 10 years will be interesting for 2 stroke porting etc. the masters of this are getting up in age (Eric’s got to be in his 70’s?) and I’m not sure who in the younger generation is learning and providing these services, other then the guy who shall not be mentioned on vital.
Depending what your looking for a stock bore can be made to run very well, yz are pretty limited in some aspects compared to the European 2-strokes, the yz250 is an excellent platform, usually between a little head work, and some timing along with jetting they are night and day difference, at one point in time I had a very well setup stock bore cylinder that was at the limit, that setup was easy to ride had, power for days and stone cold reliable, also had a 300 cylinder, with extensive port work done, multiple dyno runs, back to porting and tweaking things, balanced crank, ceramic bearings, and some other odds and ends, it was good, made good power and tq, but definitely did not rev as free as a stock bore setup, there are some very capable tuners, Morgan, HP Race Development , Moto Tech to name a few, obviously not much reference to Eric Gorr, there is much better options then the 295, pm me if you have any questions.
I have yet to read or hear anything negative about Tom Morgan. I traded a few emails with him a ways back about porting, info and communication were excellent.
I don't have a problem with Eric's work but big bores without a dedicated cylinder are a tough sell. It's usually a lateral move at best for several reasons.
I'd like to try the new Hitlis PV setup. Seems like it's a lot easier to lug and get traction.

Dang - this is an incredible find and extremely reasonably priced to try!
I literally sold my 2006 YZ250 after waiting around for my SmartCarb 38mm cast version that never came. This was going to be my next step in trying to get the EGR 295 jetting challenges under control.
Did anyone ever have success with SmartCarbs?
Yes, me and some friends got them working pretty well. I even have some of the original early cast model SmartCarbs! The problem with the cast models is that the supplier of the castings was very unreliable with respect to quality. Only the early cast carbs worked and those would wear out the adjuster fairly quickly if used a lot (ball and spring detent that is replaceable). I have a billet SmartCarb on my 2018 GasGas 300 GP.
As for the YZ big bore, I had the chance to ride my friend's YZ 295 by Power Seal on many occasions. Just a big bore with no porting and a few WR 250 gears swapped into it. Great motor for trail riding at high altitude here in Colorado as it was strong and lost all of the normal YZ explosiveness. However, I don't think it would be ideal for MX.
Didn't have the 295.... But I did have an EGR 265 kit on my 2009 YZ250. Absolutely loved that bike, loved the engine, and my experience with Eric was a good one. I elected to go 265 vs 295 to keep most of the stock engine character and have it be a little easier to jet. An 8oz (I think, maybe 9?) flywheel weight is a must have!
Unfortunately it got stolen from my shit hole apartment in Aurora CO in 2014. Still pissed about that.
Pretty sure Cody Webb is running that new powervalve kit on his yz250 to gain more low end. I should have never sold my 2007 yz250 😐 Paid $2500 for it and it still had the original tires on it. Makes me sick lol.
Once you get a good needle in a Keihin the YZ will run amazing. Just need to do some research and find what works. I've been using the Sudco CCL needle and my KTM 150 runs great.
I have a 100% stock CR250 ('00), an EGR 265, and his EGR, 295. In my opinion the 265 is the best of what he offers. Better low end than stock, smooth transition, and with the right pipe and jetting will rev to the moon. I use it for both trail riding and ice racing. Very versatile set up.
The 295 kit runs very well but needs the right jetting. Its a low to mid monster and is ideal for trails. As noted by others my set up lost quite a bit of RPM up top but I had low to mid porting so that was expected. I ran it with a stock crank so it did vibrate a bit more if you did rev it. A great set up for the right application.
I ran both the 265 and the 295 on the same dyno (not at the same appointment) and the 265 was about 48hp and the 295 was 50hp (I think...its been a while) but with a ton more power in the front half. (sea level and pump gas).
I will say the 295 required head gaskets every 15-20 hours if you rode it hard. (30+ at trail pace) A simple result of less clamped surface area with the big bore.
If you are looking for a MX set up I would not recommend it do to the loss of top end and vibration.
Tom Morgan works at Millenium, or at least he did at one point.
I had Tom build me a 295cc 3 years ago. Low and mid is amazing, that is what I was looking for since most of my riding is off road. It does sign off a bit earlier than the stock 250cc, but not horrible. I have ridden it back to back with quite a few 300's and I feel it makes better power.
