I am surprised to not have seen more feedback by now on the '25 KX250 in terms of mods, rider feedback, etc. Not sure if its the time of year, financial state or lack of interest in the '25 250. I have watched all the reviews but not really relevant to me in most cases.
I am contemplating making a change from a '24 KX450 to the '25 KX250. I am a 220lb C class vet rider in my mid-40's. Thinking about the 250 as a potential replacement to the 450 for some renewed fun factor. Something a bit lighter and a bit more nimble. I do not need the 450 as an equalizer in my classes. I recognize the 250 will not have same low-end jam that the 450 has. But thinking that with a Vortex (own one that can be remapped), full exhaust and some gearing changes, I could get some solid low-end and mid-range that would keep it fun and not feel like a down grade for my limited skill level.
Curious to hear from others who may be able to compare the '25 250 to the '24/25 450 and their opinion. A bit concerned I would regret it at my weight. Also I am a bit more of a lugger, low-end power rider then a screamer, which also may work to my disadvantage.
Alternatively, have also been giving some consideration to the '25 CRF250r. But with the Kawasaki I more or less know what I can expect ergo, suspension and chassis wise.

Ride one before making the switch. Have you done the easy mods to your 450 like airbox and a slip on?
@220 it may be what your looking for but it may not.
Understand your feelings! I too am a vet int, a lil older ( 63) & a lil lighter, 165lb, lol But I’ve kinda thought the same thing going from my 22 kx450, to something lighter more nimble, also considering the kx250 or the crf,250, I’m the same as I have plenty of experience with kx’s , had several of them, but I kinda want the Honda as in all my 50+yrs riding/racing I’ve never had one! I’m pretty sure I’d like the 250 works edition, great review on them. but man I find it hard to spend that much on a DirtBike keep us posted on your journey!
For slick tracks the 250 might be fine. At 220lb and you want to lug, I don’t think a 250 is a great choice especially if you have deeper soil. Maybe try the Honda 450 or ktm 350/450 if you want something that feels lighter.

You say you’re a C class “rider”. Are you actually a racer, or do you just ride for fun? The reason I ask is if you’re just riding practice, get the 250 and have fun! If you’re actually racing, even in the C class, pulling starts against 450s on a 250 at 220lbs will be no fun!
I’m about the same weight and skill, 6ft tall on a 21 KX250. I think it’s fine for a guy our size and skill level. At that level I don’t think starts will be a big issue, most guys on the gate can’t use the full power of a 450 anyways. I’ve had 450’s, 250 2 strokes, 125’s and this kx250 is the most fun bike to ride I’ve owned.
I did ride the 450 this year and bought the 250 about 2 months ago, mostly because I will ride a lot of enduro/gncc type stuff in the winter.
The 250 is much more fun to ride and I don't get any armpump in the woods as I did get on the 450.
The 250 feels much lighter ofcourse and doesn't stall as easy as the 450.
You have to twist the throttle for the 250 to get going out of tight corners ofcourse and it feels a bit tired in the deep sand but if you stay in the right rpm range its fine.
I came from 350's, had multiple Husky and KTM's. Then I got a new 2023 KX450x (in the beginning of 2023) and loved it. I put a Vortex on it and left it in "cross country" mode which made it more manageable. I ride/race off-road, mostly tight woods PNW terrain.
I then bought a slightly used 2022 KX250 becuase I was curious about it. I loved it, actually parked my 450 for the last two races of the year and raced the 250 instead. So I then got a new 2024 KX250x and raced that all of the 2024 season, putting about 120 hours on it with lots of wide open racing and riding, mixed with big rocks and all that. Picking up a 2025 KX250 next week for this racing season.
Long story short, I 95% of the time don't miss my 450, the 250 is awesome everywhere. The odd time I just want a 450 to ride something different, but I also have a KTM300, KDX220, and other stuff to change it up. 180lbs AA off-road rider/racer.
