Of how much of a broke ass sport this is.
We have stadiums packed with people and Monster and Rockstar chicks are making more money than most of the racers, especially the outdoors

Those girls probably make more on a per day basis than Ping.

It all boils down to money and obviously he isnt making enough.
It's never the job, its how much you make that keeps you there.

You have to think long term. There are no benefits in motocross so you better make a good amount of money while your employed. And about the girls, they probably will last two years before they get replaced with freshieesss

It's come a hell of a long way since I got into it around 1990. Ask some of the guys who raced back then what they think of the money nowadays. Do you really want it to get blown up and commercialized like the NBA, NFL, etc.?

If Ping was the team Manager for a Nascar team, I doubt he would be leaving to sit around a firehouse with old bald fat men, like the fire captain that lives across the street from me.

That guy is making 62K and has like 5 things at any one time he is hawking to me all the time to try to make more money.

I'd bet the caddy for a half assed golfer makes more than that.

The point Im making is there is all this bling and glam and people leave to do a 9-5. That means its a broke ass sport except for an elite few.

It already is.
Pastrana and X games commercials are on all the time.

And yes. If 20th place at a Supercross walked away with 50 grand, I may consider my kids to do this sport.

Otherwise, Burger King is better pay.

The Celebrity Golf tournament has a 600 Grand Purse.
These are Celebrities, not the elite of the sport.
Whats a Supercross? 6 grand?

Has it occurred to ANY of you that Ping may have made this decision out of WANT TO as opposed to HAVE to?

Ping is not hurting for money. He was a Factory rider for years and is a very intelligent young man. I gaurantee you he is worth double whatever he was paid over the years by being smart with his money just like Kyle Lewis was.

It isn't ALWAYS about the money. If you all think Ping is hurting for money, you're not very bright. He has chosen this path because it is what he wanted to do. It is a very rewarding job and gives him a lot more time at home as opposed to being gone every weekend 9 months out of the year and probably not home until 8 or 9PM every night.

Personal preferance man..... I would honestly stay home with my wife and watch my kids grow up if I could still make ends meet. Plus 20yrs at one job with the same people can be a factor also. Would you wanna walk by that Pro Circut rig every weekend and see Shae's #1 plate?

Bubba doesn't race for the money. Obviously everyone would do all this for free and the love of it.

My bad.

I'd guess around 200 a day.

Im not sure of their gig, if they are contracted to do all the races etc,
but most require that or 200 plus travel and Hotel, if its say a one day gig at a car show, motorcycle show.
I know 4 girls that went to Vegas for the SX, got 300 per day each plus travel and they shared a huge suite to party/get ready in.
So Gross, thats 500 a day +/- with the cost of the room.

Most people here have no idea what it takes to stay involved in professional MX for guys like Pingree, Matthes, ... even GuyB.

You need to constantly manipulate multiple irons in the fire just to keep yourself on the road and paying the bills at the same time.

There are no "paycheques" or benefits or guarantees for any of these guys. These dudes are not "factory". Some have a steady gig that keeps them going if they have other resources. Some are threading together whatever they can get to keep them inside the walls.

A little stability goes a long way. Good luck, Pingree.

I know a girl that is on "the circuit" and they do not make anywhee close to that much per day. Travel expenses are paid for as well hotel and then it was like 100 a day. Most of them are happy to do it for the exposure to help create other oppurtunities in the modeling world.

And sure they are nothing more than eye candy but in the grand scheme of things they are as much apart of the Supercross show as the guy coming in 20th. Not saying it's right just an honest opinion.

Ladies need an "Agent". I'm willing to suffer and take on the task.

Seriously, local kids make more than that "modelling" at car shows and boat shows.

If we don't then I guess we and all the racers should stop bitching about how little they make.

I doubt it's much. I was talking to the father of a SF 49ers cheerleader. He said his daughter only gets paid $25 per game!

Anyone follow Sprint car racing?? I went to the World of Outlaws in Sedalia tuesday and the King Steve Kinser got 9th and got paid a gigantic $2050. If you think motocross is dangerous go watch 900hp cars that weigh 1/3 of a NASCAR race on a half mile dirt track!!

Cheerleaders dont make shit. So little its almost not worth it.

Most are strippers/Moms/college broads on the side, and are hoping to bag a star.

My bad.

Our sport is no different than the PGA, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, etc... they all went thru growing pains to get to the levels they are at now. Do your research and find out what Tom Watson was paid after winning his first US Open compared to what the winner was paid this year... our sport is going thru a tough time but will rebound and continue to change for the better.........UNLESS we continue to allow YOUTHSTREAM to be in charge of our destiny... they will ruin motocross in the U.S.A.
