Maybe Because they street title so many of their dirt bikes so customers can make them street legal?
I think a lot of the Covid bubble peeps learned real quick they had to be able to fix and maintain said SXSs and dirt bikes and it wasn’t cheap or easy.
You can still moto on a budget if you accept that older bikes can still be fun. I never judge anyone trying to keep dream alive.
Another thing - I think emtbs are eating away at the moto market. They are fun as hell and way easier to mobilize, affordable to operate, and drumroll…..you can ride them damn near anywhere… I myself has become addicted and lately I have picked my emtb over the DB for those stated reasons.

I agree with this, if you like riding new trails there's lots more MTB than dirt bike single track. I have to go a solid 2 hours to get to a single public dirt bike single track. There's 5 MTB trails within 45 minutes of my house. Emtb's are definitely going to be a part of my 2 wheel future, I'm actually looking at racing some enduros in Arkansas next year!
Adding - it’s not just single track - I’m in my 50s and find I can throw an emtb around pretty good in the air. I sucked at jumping a reg mtb but the emtb is more akin to a dirt bike - super fun. This is where I think the moto guys will find some love and you will see more crossover.

Dirt bikes have a pretty damn high barrier to entry, you pretty much have to have a garage or atleast a shed of some kind to store and maintain your dirtbike. Then buy some tools, buy some gear, be mechanically inclined, have a truck or trailer, live close enough to tracks or trails.
Compare that to something like Golf where you need a set of clubs, some balls and tees and $50 to play at a cheap course down the road from your house usually. Even Street bikes you need to buy some gear but you can store it in your parking garage and the maintenance for most streetbikes is pretty much just oil changes.
Interesting. I'd be curious to know how many 'Street' machines are dual sport Adventure Bikes.
Their best selling model is the pure street Duke 390, but most “adventure” models by all makes spend the majority of their life on pavement.
