"all knew this and failed to report anything"

I had absolutely zero clue there was ever a lawsuit, or anything against LACR until the Cooksey video. Neither did he until a source involved in the lawsuit pushed the story in front of him.

Sounds like BS to me. I posted about it and then you sent me an email right away and deleted my post. That was right when the lawsuit was happening. So it sounds like you knew about it all along.

When was that? I was 100% caught off guard when the Cooksey video came out. And yes, in the initial I tried to give Rich the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe it was his insurance company that did the lawsuit, etc. After talking to him, I was disappointed to hear he enacted the lawsuit.

Probably like couple years ago., when the whole thing started.

IMO they should report on stories that affect the health of the sport. Tracks shutting down affect that health. Track suers affect tracks shutting down. Industry players suing a track should be a big story. That it’s buried goes to show for the umpteenth time that the moto media will do everything possible to protect their own and keep all the skeletons safely tucked into that big ol insider closet. But yeah can see why you think it’s no big deal and don’t understand why we are discussing it.

I didn't say it's no big deal or that I don't understand why it is being discussed. I get it. My mind just can't make the jump to this is a concerted effort by the media to bury a story and protect one of their bro's. I just don't think this is the type of thing they report on historically.

Of all publications I would have expected MXA to give this story a quick blurb because they cover local Socal moto. Do you think they were acting in concert with RacerX, Pulp and VitalMX to bury the story?

Agree those entities would not be working as one, it no longer matters I’m out. I’ve invested way more time than necessary in this thread! I’m in the Midwest and over 50 years old, my riding days are numbered and the long term affects of this situation will not affect me.

I understand the heat Taylor is taking, but I don't understand how it extends to the media. Have any of those publications you listed ever done a story about a track being sued? Hundreds of lawsuits against dozens of tracks nationwide, I don't ever recall coverage in a major publication. Is this somehow different because it is in Socal? Just doesn't seem like something I would read about in RacerX.

Umm because this time the one bringing the lawsuit wasn’t an insurance company but the owner of a company that profits off the users of the track he sued.

This man has the connections that he could’ve ran numerous fund raisers and what’ve received an outpouring of support from the industry and the consumers but nah he went for the big payday instead.

I would have happily bought a couple more goggles for the hell of if if they did a fundraiser instead..

But now I have to look elsewhere when purchasing new goggs from now on for the rest of my life. It's a lose-lose for everyone.

I feel like Racer X and MXA should run more stories like this, instead of MXA “testing” RMZ-450s and YZ250s every year. Would be interesting to read some real stories.

I don’t expect much from Racer X, that mag/site is an absolute shell of what it was 20 years ago. It’s basically a monthly MX Sports flyer and tshirt catalog. They got pretty deep into the Riverside vs MC stuff back in the day, or the Adam Chatfield/Attack MX scandal. Doesn’t seem to be much interest in covering that stuff anymore.

Honestly ML is one of the few that actually goes and digs this stuff up and publishes it.

You don’t see how a prominent motocross brand owner suing a track is different than some Tom, dick or harry suing a track? How many times has this happened? I’d guess zero. I would think 99/100 business owners in his situation wouldn’t of sued.

I see how it's different, that's why I said I understand the heat Taylor is taking. As far as whether this case is one of a kind, I wouldn't know because I have never seen a major publication report on a lawsuit against a track. I only know about the lawsuits against the tracks I frequent locally.

Back at the beginning of these threads some of the locals chimed in and said they all knew about the lawsuit. I would have expected one of the locals to make a post on Vital or social media, but either they didn't or nobody paid attention if they did.

I guess it’s hard for me to understand how you don’t think this is “news” worthy for our sport. Meaning I don’t understand how you think media wouldn’t/shouldn’t report on this. Everyone is entitled to an opinion though.

Also, I don’t think the Moto media made a joint effort to not discuss, however I think when a sponsor of said website is the one people are pissed out they would obviously not want to rock the boat why collecting the advertising money:

For example vital and pulp collect money from company and they are normally the two who are okay with reporting these kind of topics. Money talks though.

There's a reason I didn't include (you) ML512 in my list. I personally thought you 've handled everything here in a decent manner.

Matthes ain't sitting there forcing drinks down peoples throats.  Hell, it's pretty rare that the guests even drink very much it seems like.

The only person I can think of that has went over the line and got drunk and said shit they regret is Langston and Langston doesn't exactly have the reputation of being a great person to begin with so that ain't Matthes' fault.

Take your axe grinding somewhere else cause this shit isn't even good stinky bait.

The moto media reports on the sport at a professional level, they don't report on chicken licks raceway.

I found out the day the Cooksey video came out. I do not keep up with local track lawsuits and things of that nature. I've only ridden LACR a handful of times in my life and have no connection to any staff at that track. When the lawsuit story came out, I tried calling a number I was given for the track owner and they didn't want to talk about it.

Not trying to be too huge of an asshole on this, but another poster stated that they had an eks brand banner on top of vital, is that true?

You can always turn them away because they don't live up to the MX community standards. Why let them advertise when they are harming the sport?  Nothing says Vital has to take their money. Bottom line is Rich Taylor is hurting ALL motocross company's and industry's even Vital in the long run.

It really doesn’t make a difference if it happened on the big triple, some whoops, rollers, a peaked double, or whisky throttle off the back of a giant berm. Life altering risk is incurred every time you throw a leg over the seat. Ride at home instead of ruining it for everyone else or go free ride. If you want to sue someone sue AMA, they have their tracks laid out differently than these tracks layouts on practice days anyways.

Thank you for the transparency.

When you have an audience, you have a responsibility of what you put into their awareness.

Continuing to let that company advertise on your site tells me you value RT’s cash more than you value your audience.

Instead of giving my attention and energy to Vital, I will be consuming other content and directing my writing energy to my newsletter audience.

I will gladly return, if and when the values of this site align with my own.

That is where integrity would come in to do the right thing and tell them no. Sorry but the EKS brand is not going to make or break Vital. People who sue tracks and the OEMs and the local shops are what has been killing the sport and closing down tracks for several decades and now its getting to a critical point. People in the industry who sue should be banished from the sport and treated like the lepers they are. I know there are friendships involved but all these lawsuits are what is killing the sport and Rich Taylor should be shunned as well as anyone else who sues.

You can insult me all you want, but as a parent I am not going to judge a guy that has bled moto his whole life.  Cali tracks are out of their minds the way they run practices and I cannot believe this doesn't happen more.  Be careful cancelling EKS who supports countless privateers and pros across numerous disciplines.....before you you take a look at every thing you buy and all the details of those companies.
