2022 Gas Gas 450. I sucked some sand into the bike and killed the old rings.

Replaced piston, and had the head ported. Did a couple heat cycles and didn't have any issue. Now when the bike is cold it smokes and burns some oil until it heats up, once its hot it does not do it anymore... Cylinder was good deglazed , rings were set right. Valve seals looked good.... any ideas?

No air is coming out of the valve cover hose.

Curious - how bad does it smoke?

I've noticed that on my all stock 2022 KTM 450 SX-F with 40 hours, I see some smoke when I crack the throttle a few times when the bike is warming up. Bikes runs great, but I certainly don't like smoke of any kind.

more than a 2 stroke in 0* weather for about 4 mins then stops all together. Going to pull the head off this weekend

Could be broken ring

Was the cylinder honed? If it sucked dirt in and took out the rings, just using scotch brite on the cylinder will not make it ready to use again, will need to be honed if it is within spec or replated if not. Have you done a leakdown test?

Was not honed, going to buy another set of rings and hone it and change the valve seals......

Did you use oem piston? Everytime I used a aftermarket piston on a Ktm 4 stroke I noticed it burned oil

Did you check the ring gap? I just installed a wossner in a 21 mc450 and out of the box, the compression ring had 0 gap. Like absolutely no gap.

Valve seals, as your bike sits its leaking oil onto top of piston and when you crank it up it burns the oil sitting on top of the piston. If it was rings it would never stop.
