#834 broke down

have been friends with the family for a few years and Hunter has been the nicest, most dedicated kid I have seen in awhile--21 overall at freestone after only riding the track for 30 minutes, and 24 overall in Pa after never seeing either track--he is 16 years old and goes to public school where he is a straight A student--the Mo state mx family decided he needed to get the exposure while he can and as I put it, until someone with enough brains sees the talent that we all see in the midwest and sign him to a ride--until then we will continue to help out Team #834 and thanks to all who have helped and are going to help one of the most deserving 16 year old true privateers--good luck Hunter and knowing you like I do, this little distraction will have nothing to do with your riding this weekend--top 20 here we come--good luck and bring it home safe
a big thank you to promotofan.com for all they have done--get on their web-site and sign up for their fantasy moto-x, you can win $50,000 for picking the top 10 correctly--nice people and sure took care of hunter this weekend with gas and hotel

Sounds like the feel good story of the summer for sure. These are the stories I love hearing and what makes this sport and the people involved in the sport so special. All I can say is wow this must be a great kid. Sounds like the whole Mo. MX scene is rallying behind Hunter and that's awesome. I hope like you do ricky that someone notices the heart this 16 yr old has and helps out. Sounds to me like there's nobody more deserving.

Todd reports they got to Budds last night, somebody called him and is bringing a motorhome to the track for them to stay in, and ProMotoFan arranged for Hunter and his mechanic to have a spot under the Warthog tent for the weekend. Thanks everyone for the help. Now go get 'em Hunter!

That's great to hear. Got to meet Hunter at our local track earlier this year and he is a great kid. Love to see people make this type of effort to help out good people.

john, the poor guy with the first motorhome who hit the deer is there also after renting a car and driving up to Budd's--good luck team #834 --and glad everyone arrived safely and thanks john for trying to get him there--i remember a quote on mo state about regretting this next week --no regrets, just great memories from tryind to help one of the most deserving riders around--have fun and laugh about it on the way home

Thanks for the update, great news. He's going to have a ton of new fans from the moto board world. I guess something good does come out of these devilish places every now and again.

qualified 32, finished first moto 33rd after lauching into crowd,--here we come 2nd moto--was runnning top 25 times after getting started again--thanks doneitall for your positive attitude--hunter is the youngest rider on the pro circuit and has rode the track for 2 practices and 1 moto--we are proud of him in the midwest and as he sees more and more of these tracks, look out--spanked alot of the local pros who get to ride the track more than today--go team #834 and thanks to all who have supported him--

2nd moto was riunning 20-21 most of race when he realized his back hub was broke--had a 16 second lead over next closest when motocross happens--watch speed at 7pm central time and see what we see--youngest racer in series and running with the stacked , best in the world, big boys , thanks to all who helped in this great cross country tour--he will be at colorado next week so make sure you watch this up and comer--

I'm not trying to take anything away from the story, but I just looked Hunter up on Sponsorhouse and it says he's 18 yrs old. This is still a very cool story no matter his age.

That's cool, I was only wondering because I thought you had to be 17 or 18 this year to race AMA pro. He may want to change his Sponshouse status though.

they raced and got their poiints last year and were grandfathered in--that is why he is going to be the youngest for awhile since they have now changed the age to 17 this year and 18 next year--great job team #834

Hey, this is Hunter, the kid this whole post is about. I just wanted to thank all of the people who wished the good luck and asked if we needed help, this week was crazy and all of you helped out a bunch and i cant thank you guys enough for that.
This picture that guyb posted seems to have started a bunch of stuff, maybe that's why he deleted it...who knows. All i'm gonna say is if you weren't there on the fence when this happened then you cant say much. He snapped this picture as soon as my hub broke. The bike skid to a stop and i jumped off onto my feet and took my goggles off immediately(As you know, it was pretty hot and humid) and as you can see in the pic i haven't even gotten my goggles off yet. So i would say this picture was taken approximately 2-3 seconds after my bike hit the ground. If GuyB would have continued to take pictures you would've seen me pick my bike up and drag it to the other side of the track( which was downhill, and had no banners on the side ) as quickly as I could without crossing in front of the riders coming up the hill. So if that wasn't the right thing to do then someone please tell me a better way to do it in case my hub breaks again, which hopefully wont happen again anytime soon haha.

Hunter, I know you and you're a smart rider that knew EXACTLY what you were doing safely with your bike on that section of track...you did nothing wrong I'm sure. I dont post much here because of exactly what panic revver is talking about...bunch of wanna be/hasbeen/neverwas's gotta beat ya down...rediculous that this otherwise positive thread turned to this...so typical.

Yeah, when I have guys who I'm going to guess weren't there and/or didn't see it, telling me how I should shut it, or I don't know what I'm talking about it's a little lame. Rather than argue with them (and watch them post comments about your situation under wrong photos in the gallery), it was just easier to delete it.

I flagged years ago, and have a decent idea of how things should work. I still drop the camera and provide guidance or assistance for riders when I can, or feel it's necessary. I think the latest time was at High Point, when Jarred Browne went down and it was sort of a blind section before the finish line with no flaggers nearby.

As I explained in the comments on the photo, I wasn't trying to call you out personally. If I was, I'd have posted your name in the original caption. I was just trying to make it more of a teachable moment. At that point I couldn't tell if the wheel was still rolling or not, but even with the uphill run at it, the left side was a better option to get out of the way. That was a fast section, and was still somewhat blind with the step-up before it.

I'm also not sure if you were getting guidance from the flagger at the jump for the track being clear or not, but crossing the full width of the track in that section was a little spooky. I was happy to see you make it across okay. If I'd been closer? I would've tried helping you get it off the track...on the left side.

You can pretty much ride through those fences. If you need to give it an assist, just step on the top of them, and they usually come down pretty easy. Smile

Is that girl a track worker? Maybe you photogs were focusing on the wrong thing if Budds is lined with track workers like that.
