Well Tim Cotter has stuck his d**k somewhere else it doesn't belong and banned basically all motorcycles for pit use at Ironman this weekend.

I've change my decision on going, and I hope a lot more people do as well. Letting just Atvs and UTVs in is asinine. Punishing the many for the few who act like idiots. But I can't expect much from Cotter's useless ass anyway.

Just a rant, please discuss or move on as you wish.

I'm blown away that they allowed pit bikes up to this point.

Talk about a huge liability and adding headache.

Ask cotter how to claim a bike he knows all about that.

I like how you just blame Tim. Like you 100% know it's on him. most of the time it's based on the insurance of the track. Maybe not you, but a lot of people ride them around completely recklessly. Insurance companies aren't wanting to deal with it.

Washougal does it too, seems like the new norm. A whole lot of people being super reckless on surrons etc.

sxs guys are not much better, they did a no sport sxs rule and still there was plenty of razrs and yxz's mobbing around.

He made a video on Facebook last night saying "HE" made the decision. So in his own words, it is his fault.

Just another example of him bring the power hungry f**k his is

Ummmm yeah I'd take a guess it'll be quite a bit different.

But I'm also not emotionally invested into this and I'd take a guess that your probably financially invested too.  Sorry that you can't let your 10 year old rip around on the Surron that you financed 😘

People running around on pit bikes and golf carts are annoying AF, so good rule…saying that TC sure likes his power trips to show how important he is. If he truly came out with a video saying it was HIS decision it just shows how much of a tool he is

Haven't they had the same rules all year? Maybe try a pedal bike, might help your blood pressure.

Its the LOCALS. Harvest is wrapping up around here. All the farm kids want to go drink beer and show off their 45k RZR just to get to and from the start and the hill because theyre too lazy to walk, never mind the fact that they are just a spectator and arent actively supporting someone on the track.

Edit: Putting in more information here because its also more than just the SXSs. This same group of people also bring in their 110s, xr80s and just act like straight morons, and they all have this mindset around here "well my buddy is bringing his to ironman i wanna bring my too and ride around on it." i hear this same shit day in and day out from people around here that dont even ride.

It should be golf carts and bicycles only.

GNCCs are always a mess with all the pit vehicles parents/kids blasting around on 110s while you are trying to navigate the usual crowds of people already in the way. Its annoying as hell.

I don't know why people always need pit bikes at a damn off-road race, you park your truck or camper and WALK to the sign up tent, get your transponder/stickers and walk back to your car then ride your bike to the start line.

If you want to look at the track then walk it or get a mountain bike which you had to do before anyways, pit bikes were never allowed to be used to survey the track.

When I was growing up racing in the 80's you had to walk your bike in the pits to go to the gate. I dont think even bicycles were allowed.

Get used to it as due to the insurance companies you will see pit bikes stopped at almost all events. Law suits are the issue, not the promoters.

There's tracks here with dead pit rules. Bikes can only be ridden on track on race days.

Then there's another that's leaned into pit bikes and has two badass pit-bike tracks.  The only downfall of which is a million pit bikes riding around the actual pits at mach whatever.

I heard locally in the last week that our district will most likely prohibit anything with a throttle.  Just bicycles for next year.  The main reason was insurance.  The number stated was that of all the claims pit vehicles accounted for 25% of them.

Even when I raced MX in the early 2000's this was the case.

Or an example of someone doing their job, making a decision they know won't make some people happy, and taking responsibility for the decision.

Yeah, when people are constantly getting hurt, at what point is it "power hungry" or the safety of others. I guess if we want to look at it as "power hungry" any time anyone makes a rule, they are "power hungry"

I see a few differences compared to pit bikes:

UTV:
Less likely to be operated by unattended minors
Less likely to be stolen (Wasn't pit bike theft a problem here last year?)
Less likely to be ridden on the race course.
Less likely to be hit by a car while driving through the pits, mostly due to height.
Having 2-4 morons in 1 vehicle is less chance of an accident than 2-4 morons on their own vehicles.
The property owner and his friends are SXS owners that will likely want to spectate from the comfort of their overpriced all terrain couches.

Just wait until GNCC has to start limiting spectators on the course for liability reasons.

We're really gonna see some people rage at Cotter then.

had gncc enforced their current rules on pit riding this wouldn't be happening.  The pits were crazy last year. I go to race , not party like its collage.

bullshit. 2 years ago a SxS crossed the track during a youth race and hit a child. Saturday night, same race, i layed in bed listening to some jerk off in a turbo rzr with exhuast ripping around the parking lot at 2 am. Ban the SXS from GNCC, let ADULTS operate small pit bikes and quads.

I'm an Area Director for the Florida Trail Riders and pit vehicles have been a big subject the past couple of years. Like GNCC guys were getting out of hand with all pit vehicles from SxS's to One Wheels. We would have people show up to a race with their bucks up Razor and didn't have a racer in the group they were just there to hang out for the weekend. We now have age restrictions, and my local club requires helmets at all times, but that's mostly a landowner requirement.

I don't have an opinion of Cotter one way or another but in his defense once you get to the point of so much of your time is devoted to policing pit bikes you have to make a change. I wish it wasn't something we had to worry about, but our events sometimes have over a thousand racers in a weekend, we just couldn't continue with a free for all. GNCC's problems are the same we had just on a x 2 scale.

The idea of having pit vehicles besides a bicycle or maybe an ebike is nuts to me. Allowing ANY spectators to have anything motorized besides maybe an eBike it doubly insane to me. Go there to race. It's not a damn free for all trail ride with your buddies or party to drink beer and act stupid. The fact that it has become so bad at a few of these events is GNCC's fault for not nipping it in the bud early on and now we have the issues we have now.
