Seriously, he's entered a major Beach race, with no previous vision of it?

Madness.

As philG wrote, he's probably being paid more than what the race winner will get. I hope he amounts to good value for the event.

Watching Kellet (was him?) getting through the swarm, was quite the thing - somehow finding the gaps.

My mechanical sympathy goes out to all the bikes being trashed by it.

Sidecar (if you are out there)  : you doing it again?

I’m still on here but not very often these days, I was there but carrying a shoulder injury so it wasn’t our best year but we finished all 3 hours, Justin rode really, really well, he was pushing on for the whole race, I was impressed 😎👍

Bam came up to lap me at the corner before the big straight. I heard a bike banging off the limiter & i thought that sounds like bam. I checked up & bam laid her into the berm true bam style. ✊🏻 It was great to have him over.

Cant wait to hear his thoughts lol

I finished 13th in the over 40 class out of 191 entries, & 154 in the main race. I was happy enough for my first go at it. I was very far back in the parc ferme & i ran to my bike but then had to wait till some older gentleman walked slowly to the bikes. I was blocked in & without knocking bikes over (which i wasnt going to do) i just had to wait. I started probably in the last 75 or so & By the time i got down to the beach the top boys were already at the end of the straight.
I quickly passed about 50-60 bikes & got involved in some carnage on a dune not of my own making. The bike overheated, so much steam i couldn’t even see! Lol i let it cool, fired it up & realised i was now without any clutch. I was probably in the last 50 bikes. & I thought i was done before id even got a lap.
However i managed to nurse it around with no clutch to the big straight & to my surprise by the time i got to the bottom of the straight it had cooled off a bit & my clutch was back. From there i nursed it to the finish the best i could. The clutch just kept coming & going every lap lol. That led to a fair few crashes because anytime someone stopped infront of me i had to way to stop except kill the bike or bump into them. I plodded away & worked up to 154. It was a great experience & id love to do it again but its expensive. Im sure its cost me £1200 all in. It doesnt help im from Ireland so i had to ship the bike & then flights, hotels & hire car, then entry was over £200 & then new gear & bike parts needed. etc. plus a tub of Zudo cream for the 3rd degree burns on my arse!

I have to say, i have never seen ruts so deep in my life & i’ll never look at a run the same way again! 🤣

I watched that crash live. Terrifying

Same,I was right by it. One of the worst accidents I think I've ever witnessed at a race.

I was in the pits, i crewed for Ben & Nathan Watson when they were on 150 Honda's, and Rob Meek was going to do it on a 450, we sat for ages before they called it. Have to say i feared the worst for a long time.

I cant remember if that was the last year they went straight up the beach or not, now they have a short straight going the wrong way first which makes it safer, but all the surface water means you cant see a thing.

Its better now its mostly 4 strokes, but last time i did it, there were sidecars and quads in the main race, which was nuts.

We had our CR500 geared for 128MPH, but it was windy so we dropped a tooth on the front, it was still fast enough to holeshot the heat, and use 1st and not much clutch in the twisties.  I nipped at the end of the straight, as the choke mech broke, so we didnt richen it up. left it for 15 mins and it restarted it, nursed it back to the pit.

Was a buzz, we started in a V back then i had had a 2 digit number that got me at the front, on the inside, so went up right next to the fence , if it nipped i could dive into the fence.

Its Barmouth Beach Race this weekend, which is more of a short course MX deal, 5 moto's on the beach, all sand, no water , and also Weymouth which is the same thing pretty much but down the other end of the country.

Skegness was the best , run by the British Masters, it was bottomless coarse sea shells sand, you couldnt drive on it unless you were on a tracked vehicle, it was brutal tough, Potisek came and did it a couple of times.

Le Touquet is the best , fast , reasonably dry and great to watch, clashes with the Hawkstone International in 2025 though.

Last time I did it was 1996 on a Honda 250, end of the straight every lap was 1/4throttle while on the brakes to keep the oil flowing, but we were geared for about 90 or so I think. 500’s would flat drag past you like you weren’t moving while you were flat chat and hanging off the back mudguard with your ass!!

I got to the first couple dunes I think somewhere around the top 10, then going up the second big one some 6ft arsehole cut across me and snapped the clutch bracket. I couldn’t get her going again until some helpful lads bumped me off track but by the time I got to the pits to get a new one I’d missed the first hour. Came back to finish just outside the top 50, having done 16 laps. That year only the top three I think did 25, so top 20 was definitely on. I was good then though, now I’m old, fat and slow so Weston definitely isn’t for me! Oh and the 6ft plus fat arsehole.. Dave Thorpe. The bastard. Bloody hero of mine when I was younger too…

As an aside, the quads and sidecars were a bloody nightmare to race with, but at the same time the quads actually helped stop the track cutting up as much as it does now because they flatten ruts and fill in some of the holes. The way the track evolves these days for me is just plain sketchy in places especially with the puddles.
