Oh, and you're wrong about gun control and seat bouncing. (Directed at TFS)

I've had some good email chats with him re. health related issues, pretty sure his heart is in the right place.

But he was a polarizing dude for sure, as is plainly evident in this thread....

Lots of successful people are Polarizing, it's the nature of the beast. Cool

I use to race with Steve (TFS) and his brother Mike and we still chat from time to time. Both are good guys and still love motorcycles like crazy. It's not Steve's fault he got his engineering degree in California and the damn liberals brain washed him...(smiling at ya Steve)

What a lot of people don;t seem to remember is that he and a few friends were the first ones to EVER do a live internet feed from a race and it happened to be at an AMA Supercross race. They were successful the FIRST time they tried it and as soon as Cycle News got wind of it they had the AMA STOP Steve and crew from doing it again. All the while Cycle News was making a deal with the AMA to do their own "exclusive" internet broadcast and after 4 or 5 more races of trying to get their feed to work through a full race they got it working.

Steve was a pioneer in Motocross media and a fan. What surprised me was he stayed with it so long knowing the schoolyard politics that goes on at Pro motocross level racing. Still does and is the main reason that Motocross and Supercross will never be bigger than it is or has been.

IMO, that guy brought more info, pictures and knowledge to the moto boards, particularly Motonews (before it died), than any of the dickheads that criticize him, now and back then.

But, that's how these boards work I guess... People that actually know something throw it up for all to see and it never fails to get torn apart by "the real experts". It's one thing to have an opinion and argue it, and quite another to just completely talk out of your ass to feel like a bigshot.

TFS is one of the most knowledgeable people on the moto boards. He is very smart and decided a few years back to do some NASA projects, but still remains one of the best photographers out in our sport. His real name is Steve Bruhn. I hope hes back shooting all the races.
Another typical Jersey fuckstick.

"most knowledgeable people on the moto boards" you fucking kidding me?

"but still remains one of the best photgraphers out in our sport"..............Sweet Jesus kid. You cant see so good can you?

The TFS of Motonews was a treat.

The TFS of Vital was intolerable.

Now TFS works for the Dharma Initiative. He lives in a latch and punch numbers every 108 minutes in order to save the world. :-)
It was good to see him this week end. Long live TFS.

Very true.

His photos and reports were 50% of the reason I paid my tuition there. Once he and Cox started dominating every thread on the place, the other 50% of my reason started leaving. Then Bruhn's worthwhile content went away and I no longer had a reason to stay. Hello monkeydrive!

I suspect I'm not alone in that experience.

Once every 6 months or so I check in on his new website to see if he's been able to recapture the old magic. Not so much.

Fugg'n classic!

I predicted the topic of this post shortly after Teef left and took his ball. Pretty much right on schedule...

I still run my Apollo sig in honour of Teef though - didn't want him to entirely fade away...
Right on schedule? Didn't he melt down and leave the moto scene quite some time ago?

He was/is a good moto photographer, had insider info, and was definetely a very intelligent individual. His opinions, methods of discussing things, and ego were his major differences with most people.

Ahem. Uh, let's set the record straight. The sequence of events that you describe bears a very vague resemblance to what actually happened when WI! brought off-road to the net, but TFS wasn't involved.

Motonews (LCS Racing w/Hutch and Lucky) and Bruhn got into the game a couple of years after all that went down with Pace/CN/AMA. (For the record, the AMA was pretty neutral. It was Pace/CN cronyism that locked us out) I had a meeting with Lucky and Hutch one day when I was in the shop and laid out what we had been doing. A couple of months later, after I had turned down TFS' proposal to contribute to WI! (I'd already decided it was not a going concern), POOF! - there's Motonews/Mototalk with TFS as primary correspondent. Contrary to what you might think, I thought it was pretty cool. That was the only way it was going to work: a going-concern business already profitable in the industry married with a very attractive travel package.

More questions:

Why'd I kill WI!? I had to eat. It didn't feed me and interfered with those things that did.

Why'd it work for MN and TFS? I'd say that the privilege to fly anywhere in the world for free with a camera had a lot to do with it. (TFS was a Continental Airlines employee).

Why isn't he still doing it? (Besides the bridge torching campaign) I'd say (JMO) that it turned out not to be worth it. It's expensive as hell to do what TFS did (at least after he departed Continental) and what Gibby now does. It keeps you on the road all the time and is not as glamorous as you might think. I'd guess after a while you'd just long for a lawn to mow. And it doesn't pay enough to make it all worthwhile; it's a labor of love. The bridge torching gave him an excuse to exit stage right. But I think he'd been contemplating it for a while.

JMO.

He was this big fat guy because he broke his collar bone and they cut his thyroid while operating by accident. He had a massive reverse meltdown when he found out why he was fat, but after his belly shrank he still couldn't find his dick so now he hates American flags and anyone who fought for his right to say stupid shit.
