Hey everyone, I got a 2019 KTM 150SX back in June on trade for my KX450. First thing I did to it was a fresh top end, and I got the head decked and cylinder ported. Besides that the bike was bone stock except for a rear spring.

First thing I did besides the motor work was a set of grips (the old ones were mismatched), Guts seat cover, and an Acerbis glide plate. Also bought Gizmo Mods reeds and Raptor foot pegs off of a buddy.

Sat like that for a bit and then I wound up swapping bars with my buddy for his tall Renthal Fatbars, and got a set of plastics for it.

Soon after that I finally bit the bullet on doing graphics for it, which I had been considering since I got it. Most people I’ve talked to love the graphics but I’m sure some of you will hate it due to the colors, but I think it looks sick. Also threw on a 49 tooth rear sprocket as it was 12/50 or 13/50 before. Anybody have gearing suggestions on these? The 49T I installed is getting worn and I plan on replacing the front and rear, and I read that 14/50 could be a good ratio.

I’ve done a few other small things since those pictures and have some stuff on the way but hopefully I can update for that shortly. Trying to juggle between this, my RM125 build, and saving for a truck.
Since the last post I got my orange fork and shock decals in, and got an orange Renthal pad to match my bike better. Got a good deal on some OEM handguards on MX Locker so I put those on, not sure if I want to keep them on yet.
Probably not a whole lot more too soon here but hopefully a full PC or DEP pipe around winter, kinda leaning towards a DEP now.
Just needs some dirt on it 😎
Nice work.
Bike looks great! Nice job, man.
I'm on an '18 150sx, and have been since 2019. Love the 150's. I tested the 49t rear sprocket early on, but switched back to the stock 13/48 pretty quick. Gears just felt too short. I personally like the SuperSprox steel rings (the bikes light enough already!), with a quality standard roller chain. I always intended to test a 14t front, but really never had an issue with the 13/48. By the chart below, the 14/50 would be even taller than than 13/48...
Been running that same skid plate for years now, too. It's great- lightweight, tough, and removeable with one screw.
How do you like the head adjustment and porting? What are you running for fuel?

I love my 150 for sure, but I agree on the gearing. It's got a 12/49 from the previous owner and it's too short, but can't decide if I want to try 13/49 or 14/50 quite yet. Couldn't tell you the exact spec on how far the head was taken down, but porting wasn't too extensive as these are already pretty close from the factory. Mainly just cleaning them up a bit. I have to run it on straight 110 due to the higher compression, which I use VP C12 for. I also have the red PV spring. Riding it compared to my buddy's stock 150 it definitely feels like it pulls harder, especially higher in the powerband.
Threw a couple different things on since then but nothing major, new set of MX34 tires, clear stompgrip, pink grips, etc.

Over the past few nights I decided to strip the whole bike down to the frame for powdercoat, I have a cool idea planned which I wont share with anybody until it’s done! Will also be adding extra cool bits as I can afford but I’m hoping to get the bike assembled ASAP for indoor moto season.

Been a few weeks since I’ve updated, since then my frame came back from powdercoat & I begun reassembly. Still waiting for my head, water pump, and PV covers to return in the mail as well as my swingarm bearings to arrive. After that it should be time to fully assemble.

Been a minute since I’ve updated here. As of right now, the only thing I’m waiting on to put the bike completely together is Pivot Works to warranty my swingarm bearings. 1 of the 4 sent was bad, so the spacers won’t slide into it. Motor parts arrived, got a full PC exhaust, and maybe a few other bits & pieces since last post. Going to buy a JD jetting kit & replace the faulty jet block gasket to get it fully dialed.
Is it still a “budget” build?
Starting to drift away from that haha. Still cheaper than my RM125 build 😆
Finally got the swingarm bearings pressed in. Now I'm just waiting on my chain, chain guide, and a few miscellaneous bolts to arrive to "complete" the bike for now. Thinking about playing around with different bar bends, I like these tall Renthals but I'm sure it hurts my form and makes me stand up too straight. Also might ditch the hand guards, opinions?
ditch the tall bars and you'll be surprised how much easier it is to lay the bike over in a turn.
This. PT Evo Husqvarna bend, trimmed down to your favorite width (they’re WIDE), and proceed to rip!
Any idea what a similar bend would be in Renthals? haven't looked yet but I was thinking about switching to twin walls.
Ditched the handguards, and finally got my chain in to give it the first ride. Might remove the orange skid plate and eventually replace it with a carbon one, I feel the orange is a bit much down there. I also installed an orange Acerbis chain guide kit but I think I'll eventually swap it for a black one, again I feel it's a bit too much orange. Jetted it with the JD jetting kit and replaced the jet block gasket (mine was toast at 36 hours) and it couldn't be running better.
999 is closest, but they’re even wider than the Evo’s (and stiffer…and more dinero…); 813mm for that bend TwinWall versus 811mm for PT’s
Pit Row
Better options then twin walls I think . You lose to much room for the controls with the twin walls imo imo PT Evo or Renthal FatBar is a better choice imo.
Got it put together and “finished,” the only things to do are replace the orange skid plate with a carbon piece, reprint the old swingarm decals as they don’t fully stick, and I am getting new bars very soon. After riding a YZ with 827 bend FatBars I’ll be going with that bend in twinwalls. Should be selling my old KX100 within a few months, so I can focus on my RM125 that’s been on the back burner for 2 years.
Won Dunlop’s weekly tire sticker giveaway a bit ago, gives it a nice little touch in my opinion
Took it for the first official rip at a track on Sunday, only complaints are my bars which I’m replacing, and then my rear spring is too stiff which I will replace when I find someone letting go of an OEM rate spring. Previous owner was much larger than me so I can’t even loosen the ring enough to get sag right.
